Alpine, California - Do You Know Alpine's Fast Food History?

There was a big debate between my co-workers and myself the other day, brought on by the new McDonalds. I was amazed about how everybody complained about it coming, but now it always has a never ending drive-thru line and people are always putting status posts about going there. My co-workers don't live in Alpine but some do have ties and one was amazed that we would be picky about fast food places after all "Alpine did have a Long John Silver and KFC once."

This was the heated debate, was there a combo of a Long John Silver and Kentucky Fried Chicken in the same location that Carl's Junior now inhabits?

I was a reluctant Alpine resident in 1991 when my parents moved us here from Point Loma and during the later college years I moved away only to come back in 2005 with my own family, so there were a few years where Alpine was not my favorite place so I could quite possibly have some sort of a block. To my recollection however that has always been a Carl's Junior in Alpine on Tavern Road right off the freeway. There may have been something else in it, like the Long John Silver much like that Green Burrito is now. I think however a KFC would have been more memorable because I do love their biscuits.

We have seen more than our fair share of restaurants fast and slow come and go.  I think I am pretty versed on our culinary (proud and not so proud) history, but I do admit that I don't know everything. I know that we have had the KFC at Viejas for quite a period of time, but that isn't in Alpine Proper. Fred's has been here for forever, but was it something else a long time ago? I can't remember. I know that we've been through our fair share of frozen yogurt shops, I even worked at that first Glaziers. Is there some other fast food establishments in Alpine that I have neglected to mention?

So I am looking to you long time Alpine Residents please set us straight on the Fast Food History of Alpine. Has Carl's Junior always been there or was there a KFC and was Long John Silvers part of either combo?
