Talk is Cheap, So Shut Up and Do Something

Ok, I have to admit, this post is not negative as the title may imply.  I just wanted to get your attention.

As a manager of a group of lenders.  I can't help but think to myself, people talk and talk.  They talk about how bad the market is and what they are going to do to drum up business or improve their lot in life.  However, that is where the train goes off the tracks.  They talk and talk and talk but never take any action.  How about you? Have you talked a lot lately but failed to take action?  Have you already forgot about your New Years Resolution?

Simply put, we tend to dream big dreams and talk a good game.  I was taught as kid, talk is cheap and action speaks louder than words!  In today's market, it is no longer time to talk, but time to take action.  Now is the time to start to do all the things we know we should be doing.  It could be as simple as picking up the phone and calling past clients to say hi and remind them that we are still in the real estate business.  It is a great time to remind those clients that if they know someone who is in the market for our services, now more than ever, they need true professional representation.

Speaking of "professional" representation, what have you done to increase your knowledge of your trade.  Being part of Active Rain is a great way to continue to grow your knowledge.  But what else have you done?  Is this an area where you need to take action?

As I coach lenders, it drives me nuts.  They want agents referrals but do absolutely nothing to earn them.  Granted, not all lenders are lazy, but I must say, I believe the 80/20 rule applies to lenders like it does to everything else in life.  20 percent write 80 percent of the business because they are doing something other than blowing a bunch of hot air.

While this post could go on and on, the point is we all need to stop talking and start doing.  Don't make a laundry list of all the things you need to do.  Simply put, take a couple of action steps that will make the biggest impact with the least amount of effort.  Start there, master those and then add on to that success one step at a time.

Success is never achieved overnight.  It is achieved by hard work and a determination to succeed.  Being part of Active Rain shows you have some skin in the game in regards to your career and desire to learn.  Now, take action on all the great stuff you are reading.

I wish you much success as you take action!

Dan,

It's not negative at all!  I like it, people do talk too much, and are dishonest.  I straight talk my clients all the time so I appreciate your post!
