The "Perfect Storm" in Northeast Ohio

By
Real Estate Agent with Progressive Urban Real Estate (PURE)

It is a frigidly cold day here in Northeast Ohio. The headline yesterday in the Plain Dealer, our local paper, refers to a "Perfect Storm". They are not talking about the weather though, but the foreclosure crisis that is creating havoc on our local economy.  The mayor of Cleveland, Frank Jackson, has gone so far as to file suit against the top banks in this foreclosure mess. It is reaking havoc on our local economy. It is hitting all ends of the market from the inner city to the very high end suburbs. No one is immune. As a Buyers agent it is a double edged sword-there is a great deal of inventory on the market for my clients to choose from - but they keep "sitting on the fence" waiting for and even better deal to come along, or if they put in an offer it takes forever for the banks to give you answer. This is enough to make you want to go sell cars.

Reasons why you should not leave the real estate business to sell cars:

  • the commission isn't as lucrative;
  • you have to actually deeal with many more tire-kickers in car sales than in real estate;
  • you'll still have to hear "but I thought my credit was better than that!";
  • think of all the lonely houses just waiting for you find someone to keep them company;
  • people hate car salesmen but love realtors
  • realtors make friends - car salesmen only make deals

Renae-I like the line about the credit--and as for tire kickers-there are alot of them but don't worry I won't be leaving RE for car sales any time soon. It is way to interesting and NEVER boring.

I am not making a living right now and I see no light in the tunnel.

BUT

I like buildings: houses, warehouses, retail shops, all of them.  I like the different styles and configurations.  I like how each ages in a unique way.  I like how each has its own history and how they keep their secrets until maybe discovered.  Our buildings are an intimate part of our human existence and that is why I love what I do.

 Can I get a draw now.
