Let's face it - we're all stretched to our max with business, home, family and a ton of other responsibilities. We don't have the luxury of throwing up our hands and giving up when we feel overwhelmed. As an entrepreneur, we need to stay focused and organized in order to be productive and enjoy the fruits of our labor. But, you can't play the game if you don't know the rules.
In the weeks to come, I'm choosing one aspect of being organized and productive in our business. I'll start with the Game Plan and move through topics such as reducing distractions, self discipline, setting goals, avoiding burnout and tons more. I hope you'll stick with me and offer your suggestions and ideas. We're all in this together and helping each other only makes us stronger.
Set Your Game Plan
- Time Management - This is one of the most basic factors needed for any successful person. Notice I didn't say, "business person". Whether you're a Realtor®, work out of your home office or are a stay-at-home mom or dad, time management is one of the most important keys to success.
Even if you have one very small task to complete, if you do not manage your time appropriately, it may get done too late or not at all. If you do not have a game-plan for getting it done, the results could be disastrous.
Increasing your productivity and getting things done means having a good game-plan.
- First, you need to know exactly what needs to be done.
- Second, whether you have a deadline or not, you must decide when it must be done. This is true whether it's a short term or long term goal.
- The third step is to (as Nike says) Just Do It!
If structure and time management have always been part of your life, the concept of setting up your game plan may come naturally to you. If you are not used to these concepts, now is the time to implement them. It's the only way to truly reap the benefits of working hard for your business and family.
If you have ever felt that there are just not enough hours in a day to do everything you need to do, this will be a very positive step for you. You will be pleasantly surprised with how much you can accomplish. With a game-plan, you may find yourself getting more done each day than you usually accomplish in a week. Not only will you be more productive, but achieving each goal will come much easier.
Here's link to a simple All Day Planner App, that helps you keep records of reminders, Calendar dates, utilities, to do list, notes, expense summarys, friends and family telephone contacts and business contacts.
If you prefer to write down your schedules, here's a link to a variety of free printable day planners.
Next week, we'll talk about reducing distractions. Until then, please let me know how you stay organized and what suggestions you have to help others do the same.
