JD’s Pumpkin Patch - When life gives you turkeys, sell those!
We know the importance of being flexible and having a backup plan. This point is underscored quite well in a recent story about a family farm in Yacolt, Washington. JD’s Famous Pumpkin Patch doesn’t have any pumpkins to sell this month.
Despite being called JD’s Famous Pumpkin Patch for quite some time, the Schwindt family didn’t even have a pumpkin patch until last year. However, since it was such a big success, they planned to have an even larger pumpkin patch this year.
Life though, doesn’t always unfold according to our plans. Apparently, they didn’t fertilize very well, and out of four acres of seeds, the only spot where the pumpkins grew was in a field where the cows were feeding. No doubt you can figure out why.
JD's Pumpkin Patch - Go with Plan B T - as in turkeys.
So, instead of selling pumpkins, JD’s Pumpkin Patch is going with plan B, make that plan T, as in turkeys. Skip the pumpkins, people are encouraged to stop by JD’s this month and pick out their Thanksgiving Day bird early.
The free range turkeys sell for about $4 a pound and JD’s will care for, butcher and clean it in time for Thanksgiving. The Schwindt family says their 125 feathered friends taste unbelievably delicious compared to those purchased at the supermarket.
The folks at JD’s Pumpkin Patch readily admit they thought about saving the harvest season by importing pumpkins from an outside field, but decided against it. After all, when life gives you turkeys - sell those!
While on the subject of turkeys, thought you might enjoy my favorite Turkey Drop moment from WKRP in Cinncinatti. They should have thought of a plan B. " As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."
