Mountain

Worry may be the undertone of our era. A white noise of undifferentiated anxiety. This pervasive undertone can create serious stress.

Without a road map, with no predetermined path that leads to success, if followed, it's a world of risk & projection.

One can study & take courses & not find a job in the chosen field. In a sales career, if buyers are reluctant to act, or even unable to, because of economic downturns, then no transactions take place. If the holder of a hard asset, which is the key element in a portfolio, can't sell it when needed, then the stress of this failed opportunity is enormous. The terrain of our lives has irrevocably changed.

Many things have coalesced...the aftermath of 9/11, which may have signaled the end of travel...certainly a flight has an extra dimension to it, with the vetting against terrorism...the economic meltdowns which hastened the collapse of the 20th Century business model...without a clearly defined 21st Century version in play...a technological expansion that creates new opportunities every week...which is not yet evenly presented globally...an obliteration of time & geography which has delivered McLuhan's global village...yet the mindset of protectionism remains in the forefront. Seemingly, everything is on the table & all at the same time. An indicator of a transition moment? A hybrid model? Perhaps....

Very important, while treading water in this sea of change, that we decide when to swim, when to tread water, when to pull into a cove & catch one's breath. It's called our editing function. With no obvious boundaries, we have to create the balance we sorely need...without this, we will just fritter away, on overload, unable to practice our creative solutions.

So...every day, a 15 minute walk. Every day, read something unconnected with the job. Every day, be disconnected from the digital universe for 15 minutes. Not necessarily the same 15 walking minutes! Every day smile at all people you meet...could make all the difference in their lives. And remember to breathe. Too many shallow breathers/holding it all in. Every day, five deep breaths.

So, not so tough, right? And you're in control...your reactions are what count, & not the events of our time. Breathe....

And your thoughts are? Always welcome!
