Halloween Trivia or Tricks.

Did you know that Halloween has been celebrated for over 2000 years.  This has nothing to do with RI real estate but it does with the season.

The Pope in the 7th century decided the pagan festival needed to stop and introduced All Saints Day...well the Pope just did nothalloween spectacular have it right because Halloween still stayed popular.

Why orange & black colors to associate with Halloween?  Orange represented the harvest in the fields and black is a reminder of death (death of the crops or to instill fear in all is the question).

What is the jack-o-lantern all about?  Something to do with a guy named Jack who couldn't enter Heaven.  The devil tossed Jack an ember who placed it in a turnip (no pumpkins available) he hollowed out and walked around forever with it.

And how did Dracula surface to enjoy Halloween so much?  Well truth be told there was this Count Vlad in Romania that belonged to the house of Draculesti...so 'Drac' was born...a ruthless killer it seems.  Dracula was born with the help of Bram Stoker who truly was the creator of Count Dracula.

All to be better enjoyed by boys and girls every Halloween...trivia or tricks can be surmised but good tales make the holiday more than a special treat for all.  Halloween Trivia or Tricks.

All fun stuff Ginny.  But I think of the candy.  That's all!  By the way, Vlad was truly a ruthless killer.  And he liked blood.

Hello Ginny -- there's quite a bit of information in your Halloween post.  I wonder about the origin of that nasty candy corn, though....

Thanks for giving me an early start Ginny.  I'm going to go the traditional route with the turnips and start carving them out now.  Scalpel please!

Ginny I have read the history about Halloween before, but I had not heard what the colors or what the jack-o-lantern stood for before

Ginny- I had no idea Halloween had been around that long!  Do you think anyone is still holding on to candy from that era?

Ginny. I never knew the significance of orange and black. I am thinking of doing decorated cookies for my neighbours and now have to look for orange food dye. Hmmmm. I think you can mix two colours to get orange. Red and yellow?

Ooooooo! Some fun and interesting facts about Halloween. It's one of my kids' favorite holidays... they've already planned out their costumes. They are 12 and 13 and insist they aren't yet too old to trick or treat.

It's so much fun to learn the story behind the tradition.  The colors are symbolic, the story about Jack enlightening ;-)
