As we move into the November Presidential election, I’d like to recommend two fascinating books that I found to be gripping, informative, and educational. The first book is called Killing Kennedy by Bill O’Reilly & Martin Dugard; the second book is Who Stole the American Dream? By Hedrick Smith.
Killing Kennedy is currently the #1 Best Seller. Hedrick Smith is a Pulitzer Prize Winner and his latest book, Who Stole the American Dream, did not disappoint me. Both were published in 2012. I was riveted and I couldn’t put either book down. Bill O’Reilly takes the reader on a journey through the Camelot era – the beginning of the American Dream with Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech that sent that rippling effect throughout the world and gave everyone hope that all people, regardless of race, creed or color would someday be able to make that American dream their reality.
Both authors illustrate how leaders confront and create problems. We meet the challenges head-on through both writer’s eyes and their analysis of what has transpired in history to get us to where we are today. For anyone particularly interested in the current Real Estate market and the impact sub-prime lending has had on the American people, I recommend you start with Hedrick Smith book and peruse through Chapter 13, Housing Heist. If you’re interested in job loss, and the effect it has had on the Middle class, you might want to dive right into Chapter 16, Hollowing Out High-End Jobs and Chapter 17, The Skills Gap Myth.
My jaw still hurts from an open mouth – again, I couldn’t put the books down. As a direct result of what has transpired in our history during our life time, we are all subsequently confronting problems and we need to find solutions. For anyone who has stayed current with the first two Presidential Debates, you will have to decide who best serves the American people and isn’t a coward, a laughing jackass who can’t be serious when coming to issues, near and dear to our hearts. As citizens, we all need to demand better leaders. It’s easy to observe body language and identify this politician’s core values – then we must seriously evaluate and conscientiously decide who will best lead our country to better greatness than what we’ve experienced these last four years.
In Bill O’Reilly’s, Killing Kennedy, it’s evident that corruption has existed long before many of us were even born. Yet when it comes to prevailing during difficult times, having integrity enough to admit to failure and coming out even stronger, than this is where true leadership begins. The Kennedy family was not perfect but when it came to making decisions, and knowing who to trust, and who you couldn’t trust, it’s obvious that every man on earth lives and every man dies, the decisions rest with each individual. No one person here on earth holds the power to make change which destroys human life, liberties, religious freedom, shelter, income, and that one dream, shared by the majority of American people. How decisions impact the human race, especially for generations to come, that’s what we need to focus on because LIFE IS GOOD. Every American citizen eligible to vote - must!
I believe both authors will help you to take a step back in time to re-evaluate our past, present and future. The reality is we, the people, deserve better leadership. As you read through the pages of history, the sobering truth is, we all have a lot of work to do. Both authors touch on the hearts of the matter, covering issues that impact how we live from a housing perspective, to physical and mental health, our hopes and our dreams. Folks, all I can say in sum is this, if Kennedy was still alive, and still needed Health Care, what do you think he would have to say about Obamacare?
“Ask Not What Your Country Can Do for You - Ask What You Can Do For Your Country.” JFK
