Columbus, Ohio Trick-or-Treat is October 31, 2012!  ... and Dublin, Gahanna, Grandview Heights, Hilliard, Lewis Center,  New Albany, Powell, Upper Arlington, Westerville, Worthington and more are "Trick-or-Treating" on October 31, 2012.

Back in February 2009 the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC)  decreed the future of Trick-or-Treat throughout central Ohio.  All central Ohio communities do NOT always 'Trick-or-Treat" on Halloween.  When Halloween falls on a weekend night the MORPC recommended "Trick -or-Treat" or "Beggar's Night" might be the night before Halloween or a couple of nights before Halloween.

NBC4i.com 2012 Trick-or-Treat list seems to bear that out.

Franklin County, Ohio communities in the Columbus Metro area are "Trick-or-Treating" on October 31, 2012... Halloween

  • Blendon Township
  • Clinton Township
  • Columbus
  • Dublin
  • Gahanna
  • Grandview Heights
  • Hilliard
  • Jefferson Township
  • New Albany
  • Norwich Township
  • Perry Township
  • Upper Arlington
  • Westerville
  • Worthington

I see Bexley, Grove City, Reynoldsburg and other Franklin County, central Ohio communities as well.

Minerva Park, same as Columbus and Blendon Township? Sharon Township, the same as Columbus and Worthington? If you don't see your community listed or want to verify the information call or look at the information they have provided online.

All Delaware County Ohio communities look to be "Trick-or-Treating" on October 31, 2012...

  • Delaware
  • Galena
  • Genoa Towhship
  • Lewis Center
  • Liberty Township
  • Orange Township
  • Powell
  • Sunbury

I wonder about Ashley? Berlin Township? Ostrander?

Check with your community and / or verify the date* if absolutely, positively important for you to plan ahead to dress up the kids or hand out candy.

The Berlin Township website has a Fall 2012 newsletter that confirms they are following MORPC's recommendation, this year.  Trick-or-Treat will be 6;00 to 8:00 on October 31, 2012.

Ostrander has a great little website!  The Ostrander website says:

"Halloween in Ostrander (Trick or Treat) will be Wednesday, October 31 from 6-8 pm"

Most communities in northern Franklin County and Delaware County are 6:00 to 8:00. A few central Ohio communities are 5:30 to 7:30.  One place on the list gives the kids an hour and a half?  Small town?

MORPC "Trick-or-Treat" recommendations:

Last year, 2011 most central Ohio kids had  "Trick-or-Treat" on Halloween, October 31, too.  Looking back at what MORPC recommended for Trick-or-Treat" or "Beggar's Night" from 2009 to 2014:

” The schedule would be as follows through 2014:
2009 – Thursday, October 29
2010 – Thursday, October 28
2011 – Monday, October 31
2012 – Wednesday, October 31
2013 – Thursday, October 31
2014 – Thursday, October 30  ”

It's the years MORPC recommends "Trick-or-Treat be on October 28, 29 or 30th that you have to look carefully to see when your community is holding it on Halloween.

Could this info be wrong? Perhaps. Out in the boondocks on the Channel 4 News website 2012 Trick-or-Treat list there are a number of communities that are "Trick-or-Treating" on October 25, 2012.

Maureen: I remember several years of taking the kids Trick or Treating. It was a stretch sometimes during the week to get off work, make the commute, and get home in time to take them out. No matter the day though, I'm glad to see that kids still do go Trick or Treating.

Maureen, now that is important information for all the local children and their parents...I remember when my parents prepared all week for the big evening and all the kids loved to go over their house always guaranteed to get lots of candy & chocolate:))

Thanks for the comments.

Rene I think most kids here still get to go out "Trick-or-Treating."

I get lots of halloween traffic on my sites most years because "Beggars Night" or "Trick-or-Treat" dates were confusing in Columbus.   This year is kind of boring.

Endre wrote "I remember when my parents prepared all week"

We were lucky my parents were prepared with candy when the door bell rang on Beggar's Night (the night before Halloween where I grew up.  The six kids in my family were out "trick-or-treating."
