What to do when your contacts receive spam email from youWell, it happened to me just last night...my husband received a spam email from "me" and brought it to my attention.

I apologize for that! Sorry those who are in my Yahoo address book!!!

I get those too, from friends, family, clients...it happens to all of us...and I know it won't be the last time it happens to me!

So what do you do about it?

1) Once you realize it or are made aware of it, quickly change your password in your email account as well as any other "possibilities" that you think may have been affected.

2) Go back into your email account and wipe out all your contacts in your address book. Now if this is going to cause some people major heart palputations, just know names can be searched in older email archives...it really isn't the end of the world. It's a courtesy to those in your address book so they stop receiving the spam ASAP!

And that's all.

Oh, sure, you can give yourself a migraine thinking about where it could have possibly originated, however, I "know" that it was my "Yahoo" contacts from my email address book...I use "Flickr" which is attached to my Facebook (changed that pw too!)...Flickr uses my "Yahoo login"...so...see...it could be from anywhere out there! The best thing to do is steps 1 and 2 and "move on."

FROM THE RECIPIENT SIDE...

There are tell tale signs when you've been the recipient of spam from someone you're "connected" with...

1) There's usually just "Re:" in the subject line or something funky

2) If you do open the email and it just has a few words and a text link, DON'T CLICK ON THE LINK!!!!!

I receive these almost every week from someone. I can recognize that it is spam and delete before I open it.

Rarely do I even "open" the email because I can tell by the subject line and just think to myself, "ugghh, so-and-so's been spammed."  If it's someone who I think I should forward the email to him/her and make sure they're aware, I'll do it.
