If You do NOT remove the politcial signs, we are NOT seeing your home

IMHO * this is NOT a serious buyer if a SIGN in the YARD makes a difference in their home purchasing decision...NEXT!  It's like asking them to paint the front door another color.

Mrs. Buyer Broker is at it again. I received a request from here to have the seller remove the political signs from the front lawn or she was not bringing her customer over to see the home. Here in NH people take their politics seriously. As some say this presidential election holds the future of our great country as we know it in it's hands as well as the future of our children

Despite what I think, this request could not only infringe on the sellers 1st amendment rights, it will certainly upset them.

I believe if a potential Buyer really likes a home, they will come see it no matter what the sign in the front lawn endorses.

The KEY is figuring out if the request actually did come from the Buyer or from the agent.

As I ponder whether to even tell the seller this request as my thought is they will blow up and ban them from seeing the home which does not help in the task of getting it sold.

Some have said to remove the sign, place it out back and put it back when they leave. My thoughts were would the seller mind? Would they even know? Either way I would know and I can not do that.

So what would you do?

It will not stop a buyer who is looking for a home.  It will stop an agent that is dug in politically and they will show only when everything else is shown.

Wallace:

Nice post and good information. It is a good idea to be observant of everytihing in a neighborhood when looking to buy a home. Have a great week.

Wallace, I agree, if the house is a true prospect, the signage in the yard should not make a difference.

A buyer is buying the HOUSE and neighborhood and not anything else, especially one's political leanings or beliefs.

That is funny! Like removing the sign will change the Seller's belief, so the Buyer would still be buying from a person that supports the other party!

People get so stupid at times.

It's silly because if they buy the house they can put their own sign on the lawn. If the buyer is seriously concerned about neighborhood politics or their neighbor's political views then wouldn't signs on the neighbor's houses be more important to them then the one on the home for sale? After all the people selling will be gone soon,-)

As usual, a Realtor needs to put their opinions aside and work for who pays you. Take the truth to the seller and let them decide. It's their home and money at play here.

Just another stupid, poor agent that can't get it that the job is to sell the house-only!

This is too laughable, but what about a competitors sign, should the seller take it down so as not to upset the other agent. We sometimes think of the dumbest things.

Yeah, I'm sure a die-hard Romney supporter is going to want to even set foot in a home that has an Obama/Biden sign in the yard.  Serious buyers they may be, but they are afflicted and paralyzed by their political beliefs.  I know people like this and they won't/can't/don't cross the line.  Ever.  And they are serious.

Wallace:  If I were a seller, and had a political sign in my front yard.., either one... and some Buyer's Agent said that they would not show my home unless I removed the sign... I honestly would simply tell them to go show someone else's home... not mine.

Wallace - looks liek this is ot the buyer, but the agent, and if this is true, then the agent has no business to decide wht to show and what not because of thepolitical views of the Seller.

I guess the agent can get sued

The consolation would be that the judge would be neutral (LOL)

From marketing standpoint, if it were my listing, I'd inform the seller that it detracts from selling the house and curb appeal will suffer.
