4 things to do with "useless" emails....

How many "useless" emails do you get in a day?   I think I deleted 57 just when I got up and on average I delete 300-400 every day!  It seems like it takes up such a huge chunk of time in my day.    I was thinking as I was driving to the office today... "Hum... what could I possibly do with all these useless emails?"

Here are a couple of examples:

Lowe's Measuring tape pendant light

I asked my buyers agent Mondique Keith this morning, "Who in the world would ever want this 'Measuring Tape Pendant Light from Lowe's'?"   She lit up and said, "Oh, I would love to hang that over my son's study desk!"

Who would have ever known someone would like it?

How about this one that just came in?   Seriously?

Lowe's Light Fixtures

Here is another useless, but funny email I got today....

Obama's US Economy

The first person I showed that to said, "Oh that's perfect!  I want that in poster size."   The second person I showed it to said, "I would love to see that on a billboard!"   But my thoughts are:   If it were on a poster or billboard, not enough people would see it - why not post it on Active Rain for thousands - perhaps millions to see it?!!

After thinking about this topic for several hours (I mean minutes) today,  I came up with this plan:

(1) Skip them because "You may find time to come back and read them - ha ha!"

(2)  Save them for future use - ie., blogging ideas or information for clients, team members etc.  Or if you are ambitious, you could spend time filing them into categories (ie., building ideas, decorating ideas, training ideas, advertising ideas, family ideas, political campaign ideas etc)

(3)  Use them to touch your friends, clients, database or sphere of influence.   Example:   Goupons - are always good to pass on to someone you know that might be interested.   Political emails can and do pass around quickly.  Educational emails can be passed on with someone in mind as well.   You can save them so you can use them to negotiate a better deal when you do decide to buy that particular item.

OR:

(4)  Delete them (of course)!   I better get busy and start deleting...

Have a great day!

Oh that's right! I didn't count all the emails that go to my spam. Add another 500-600 a day for those! Yikes.

Yes Teral - Even as agents we struggle with making our emails valuable enough that they just don't get deleted!   :)  Shanna

Shanna,  e-mail is getting almost as bad as junk mail used to be. I have tried to set 'Rules' to send many topics to junk.  That has helped, but the senders just tweek their title or subject and it enters my box again.

I look at my junk mail once a week and delete the entire folder. The regular ads from Lowes, Home Depot, Best Buy are all there but I am not wasting my time reading and deleting.  I delete the whole folder.

That's a good method Mary.  I need to spend more time setting up separate folders - I bet that would help save time in the long run!   Shanna
