After a summer of heat and drought, we are lucky to have any leaves left to turn red.  This is the most colourful time of the year and it would have been sad if no leaves had been left to turn.  You can see some of the weather damage on the left side of the tree (north).

Early days yet Valerie. The trees are just starting to change around here, by next week they should be looking spectacular.

We have a huge Maple tree outside my parents home. It is so big and rare for the are that a arborist that was passing through one year exited off the interstate and came back to it. My parents house easily seen from the interstate but very difficult to get to once you leave the interstate.

The fall colors are beautiful and you captured this in your pic.

Valerie, It was one weird summer across the board. I am glad that you are having a little color at least.

Wow Val, what a difference between the two sides of the tree.  Hopefully next year will have a more balanced ecosystem but that pop of red is stunning.

Valerie, I have spent a lot of time in Cottage country the past few weeks... the colours have been magnificent.  Our Maple has finally turned, if I remember, will take a picture of it, the neighbours poplar tree "hedge" is still all green...

Valerie - What an amazing photo.  Mother nature can be so harsh.  Imagine the hot weather in the summer affecting the tree like that.  You have the most incredible colours back east when the fall hits.  I am very jealous.

Beautiful colors, but sad what Mother Nature did to the one side of the tree #50

Valerie, shame that one side is bald, but the fiery red on the other side makes up for it.

We've got a lot of the same heat stress damage in the Montreal area too. A lot of pruning will be required. Pay attention to limbs near the home.

Like I have said before, we don't have much a fall here. The only things that really turn color are Tallow trees...they are considered trash trees but in the fall they color up really nicely.

Hi Valerie, I have seen much of this as I am out making observations of the seasons change. I wonder how much actual damage to these trees has occurred over the longer term.

Malcolm:  I think some of the trees got tired of waiting for the first deep frost.  The one right outside of my office window is fully green and not wanting to drop a single leaf.  When that happens we will be buying a cartload of the bags.

Winston:  It is on an experimental farm so there is no water other than rain and we didn't get a lot this year.

Than:  When they turn a bright red they are like beacons.  Your parents are lucky to have a specimen tree.

Elite:  I was out for a walk with my camera and should go back out today as it is going to be glorious.

Debbie:  Me too;.

Joanna:  It was tough to decide if this was a good tree to shoot or to move on to others.  The fact is it half bare made it unusual - to me.

Chris:  Poplars are the weeds of trees - they are so darned hardy.

Sally:  The sumacs are a brillant red and make the maples look almost dull.  Yes, it is VERY colourful.

Patty:  You couldn't do this but old Mother Nature has skills.....

Roger:  Maybe it will be stronger next year and I will get a full tree shot.

Ellen: It sure does.

Robert:  Excellent point.  If those limbs have died then they need attention if they are near the house and the roof.  Watch out, your home inspector hat is showing.

Sussie: Just remember that we get this but we also get heaps of snow and cold.  It all balances out.

William:  These trees are pretty hardy but there is a limit.

Michelle:  But, as you see every year, the snow birds love Florida.
