Strategic default & strategic short sales in CT- Questioning morality.

By
Real Estate Agent with CG Real Estate

So is it immoral to strategically short sale your home or stop paying your mortgage when you can afford it?

Is the moral obligation to repay your mortgage debt greater than the moral obligation to provide financial stability for you and your family?

If I was forced to choose my family or my bank, my morals steer me toward the financial stability of my family every single time.

Easy decision for me. What about you?

Why settle for less than 5 stars?

Featured in Connecticut Magazine's March 2011 and March 2012 issues as a top real estate agent in overall satisfaction. Contact me for more information about attempting a short sale in Connecticut.

If this is the reason as you don't have a choice, but there are some who walk away even though they could make the payments.

You have touched a very interesting subject, Patrick.  Over the years, the banks have learned to ask for supporting documentation to their best in addressing the "strategic defaulting" issue.  You are right, moral or immoral in making the right decision, can be a tough decision.  Folks have to do what is necessary to move on with their lives!!

Patrick, it's not for me to say or judge someone but it does make for interesting discussions.

Patrick -- you do raise some very interesting concepts here - however, I doubt it is ever quite that clear cut.
