Should a Home Owner remove their Political Signs when Selling? Part 2

A unique question with a common sense answer--No they should not remove e their Political Signs when selling a home...If a buyer decides they will not go into a home because of the sign for president on the front law, they can not be that serious.

If you want to have a spirited discussion, write about politics. In my now "infamous" blog If You do NOT remove the politcial signs, we are NOT seeing your home I received piles of comments both online and in private messages. My favorite comments are always from the people who read the title and not the actual entire blog. (In case you do not see it in my tone, I am being sarcastic).

DO YOU KNOW WHAT NO ONE ASKED? (Stay tuned to the end for the answer).

First off some of the comments were straight forward from Real Estate 101 that if a Seller wants to sell their home, they need to remove all things political, personal and religous.

Others said a sign for President should have no affect on a buyer's decision to look or not look at a home. I happen to agree with this comment as if you LOVE a home, a sign for a particular candidate will not keep you from seeing it and making an offer.

Some said I should have had the seller remove the sign, some asked why I would take teh listing while others said I should charge more for the aggravation.

The truth is when I take a listing, I will list a house from a home owner who is Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or from any political party. A true business person learns at a young age that business and politics do not mix.

Being from NH you get a different outlook at politics as once every 4 years the nation invades for the presidential primary. We love to talk about politics and can sit down in a civil matter to discuss what issues or concerns we have in common and how to solve problems together than bash each other like animals. No one pushes their politics on anyone. If you drive down any street in Suburban Manchester you will see a sign on nearly every lawn. It is our our right. Heck I have one on my lawn. Asking someone to remove their sign in one of the most important elections in our lifetime is just not what NH is all about.

A TRUE BUYER who is READY, WILLING AND ABLE to purchase a home will see an ad, they will decide to drive by the home and be looking at condition, neighborhood and style. In less than 10 seconds they will decide if they want to go inside. Most often they have already looked at the 20 or so pictures that show a mint condition home, loaded with extras and upgrades and all priced to sell.

If a buyer decides they will not go into a home because of the sign for president on the front law, they can not be that serious. The buyer could simply buy the home, close quickly and replace the sign with their candidates sign.

NOW IN CONCLUSION I do agree this is one of the most important elections of my lifetime, it will decide the future of our children. Although no candidate ever seems to be 100% perfect, we may have to choose the one that can lead our country into a better place that we are today.

NOW, no one asked the QUESTION whose sign was on the lawn here in the public comments. This is a middle class home, in a middle class neighborhood and it did go under contract quite quickly and no, not to the person who demanded the Romney sign be removed. The buyer agents buyer mysteriously disappeared.
