Broward Meals on Wheels is a well known organization here in Broward County. You can see their vans delivering meals to seniors almost every day of the week. The organization was created in 1985, and provides over 1.2 million meals to 10,000 clients each year.

This year they've had to reduce the homebound meal program from 7 days to 5 days, meaning that seniors are going without food 2 days any given week. What an awful thought. That's why their upcoming event on October 20 is so important to participate in.

Broward Meals on Wheels is hosting its 6th Annual Chocolate Extravaganza on October 20 from 7-11pm at the Fishing Hall of Fame Museum in Dania Beach. There will be chocolates from around the world to sample, as well as other delicacies from local high end restaurants. There will also be music and live auctions. Tickets for general admission are $75 and $125 for VIPs.

This is the organization's largest fundraiser every year. They are expecting close to 300 guests this year, and hope to raise $50,000. They need an estimated $400,000 a year to truly help the needy seniors in Broward. That's a big gap to fill. So for those of us down here, why not spend the night eating chocolates for a good cause? Tickets are available online at www.bmow.org.

What a great idea, Patty.  People cannot resist chocolate and the proceeds go to such a great cause.

Patty

The chocolates event should be a great fund raiser for the Meals on Wheels Program.

Good luck and success.

I hope that the Broward Meals on Wheels raises the $50,000 that they are hoping. It is a great goal for a worthy cause!

Hi Patty,

OMG, that would be terrible to have to stop feeding the seniors for two days a week. Some do not have family that could pick up the slack. I hope the organization makes their fund raising goal and chocolate is yummy.

Patty! For those very few who DON'T love chocolate...move over for those who DO! Regardless, bring your checkbook, because these could be your parents at any given time.

Excellent post, my dear!

Jane, if I wasn’t a vegan, I wouldn’t be able to resist the chocolate either!

Lou, I really hope so.

Melissa, I hope they raise much more. It is a worthy cause!

Kristin, they’ve already cut out those 2 days out of the week, so it’s imperative that they raise the money.

Gayle, so true. These people are someone’s family, and that’s just sad.

Gina, I hope you enjoyed!

I hope they had a good turnout for this as this is a terrible thing that they had to reduce by two days.  I heard this has happened in other areas as well.
