I am chairing the 6th Annual Angie Houtz Memorial Fund Golf Tournament.

The Angie Houtz Memorial Fund was established after my best friend Angie was killed in the September 11 attack on the Pentagon.  The charity is run by my husband and I, Angie's 2 sisters and their husbands.

Since it's inception the fund has given out $1000s in scholarships to talented students attending public colleges in Maryland.  We recently awarded the 2012 scholarships to 5 talented college students.

After notifying 2012's winner of a $3000 scholarship we received the following response:

"Last night, after I received the phone call that I won the scholarship, I reread all the articles written about Angie. It brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful person she was! I am so honored to be the recipient of all the hard work and fundraising that goes into this tribute to Angie. I cannot thank you enough for what you are doing and for how you have lightened my load this semester. I have 15 credits and work 40 hours as a customer service representative at a hotel. It has not been easy, but I've been studying hard and am doing well so far!"

This email just reaffirmed my resolve to do everything in my power to keep this charity going.

 

The golf tournament that will be held on Friday is one of two major fundraisers held each year.
