Here is a neat way to stage a room like a home theater, complete with home theater seating that is higher in the back row than the front.

Build a simple wooden platform about 8-12" high, a little bit wider and a foot deeper than the sofa.  Paint it a coordinating color with the flooring in the space to "ground it".  Put the sofa on it, and loveseat on the floor in front of it.  Voile!  Real theater style seating that you won't see in most homes.
