Watch for black birds having secret meetings behind fences and on tree tops.  There is much to do before Halloween.  Now, if only these birds knew that I could see them through the wire fence......  The jig is up.

What does "the jig is up" imply today? The Canadian Oxford defines it as a scheme that's been "revealed or foiled," while Webster's suggests it means "all chances for success are gone" – especially when applied to "risky or improper" strategies.(taken from a CBC site)

It's almost time to break out the Edgar Allan Poe Valerie. I think "The Raven" would be appropriate for this blog post.

Just remember these are the modern descendants of some very vicious dinosaurs. The fact that they socialize makes them big conspirators. Beware!

Chris and Dick:  I don't like it when they fly close.  From a distance with a good lens....  Now that is another story.

Malcolm:  Nevermore.

Debbie:  Even the dollar store has them and they are strikingly realistic!!

Robert:  No kidding.  There are flocks of them hanging around the Experimental Farm.  Just look at this picture and tell me that they are having a meeting or two.

They do look like they are in deep conversation Valerie LOL! I've seen flocks of them as I drive north to Milton. Maybe they are making travel plans ;).

Valerie, perhaps you can educate me?  Does a "Blackbird" refer to a Crow or a Raven? or to another "Black" bird?

The birds you have pictured look like crows, but seem smaller, could just be persective...

Valerie~ Love the caption with the photo! Halloween is going to be here before I'm ready!  I'm still struggling to get Rich's costume.  No hints, I'll have a photo soon enough!

Hi Valerie, Is the Blackbird the same as a Raven? They sort of look similar but perhaps the Ravens are larger. Great bird to bring a bit of Lore to Halloween.

Janice:  You might be right.  I do see fewer of them in the dead of winter.

Chris:  I looked up the differences and these are not blackbirds - apparently these have orange beaks so I changed the post to say black birds.

Patty:  Shady and sneaky.

Sharon:  When they flock and fly enmasse then it is a scary sight if you dislike birds.

Donna: It is always fun to see what costumes people create.  I am looking forward to seeing this one.

William:  After do the internet search, these are most likely crows.  Drat!!!

Ron:  You could build a Halloween Haven for crows and I would love to see it.  LOL

Spooky!  I was walking through a park when all these blackbirds came out of the trees and started flying in a swarm...it was unnerving...all i could think of was Hitchcock!
