It's time for the Late Night Block Party in the Dallas Arts District on Friday, October 19m 2012. Both the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) and the Nasher Sculpture Center have new exhibits for all to enjoy.
The Dallas Museum of Art is celebrating one of my favorite french artists, Toulouse-Lautrec, with the exhibit Posters of Paris:Toulouse-Lautrec and His Contemporaries. . The inspiration for Toulouse-Lautrec's paintings came from the colorful Paris nightlife and personalities, in the 1800s. Many of the artists who became the subjects of Lautrec's paintings commissioned lithographs for billboards, posters, and magazine illustrations. I have always been drawn to the movement, color and design of Lautrec's paintings. Many of Lautrec's posters were reproduced, signed and sold. Lautrec's posters and poster of his contemporaries decorate walls in many restaurants and homes, in Dallas. When you visit this exhibit you will recognize many of the familiar pieces of art. Friday evening the halls of the DMA will have the feel of Paris, complete with music to compliment the french art.
The Nasher Sculpture Center recently debuted the exhibit Rediscoveries: Modes of Making in Modern Sculpture. This exhibit showcases familiar Nasher sculptures combined in new ways, along side pieces from the Nasher's collection that have never been displayed at the Nasher Sculpture Center, prior to this exhibition. This is an opportunity gain a sense of the evolution of sculpture over the last 125 years.
Bring your entire family to the Dallas Arts District and enjoy an evening of art, history, music and fun!
