At the heart of Montgomery County lies the beautiful varied city of Gaithersburg. As a virtual suburb of Washington, DC, Gaithersburg is the northern terminus of the red line, with the Shady Grove metro station just outside the city limits. The planned Corridor Cities Transitway will extend light rail throughout the western portion of the city. Gaithersburg also operates the MARC commuter rail which travels directly to Washington with no stops.
