I'm Not Only The President. I'm Also A Client.

Who remembers those hair club for men commercials from the 80s?

I'm not only the president, I'm also a client. That's how I feel about myself now that I am finally taking the steps to become a 1st time home buyer. I have spent the last 3 years helping 1st timers find and close on their homes. It's a very strange place to be on the opposite side. I thought that blogging about the process would help.

Since college I have been a bit of a nomad. I moved 14 times since my freshman year. People ask why a single girl with no kids needs a full size SUV-that's why! I get restless but then something changed, I fell in love with a cute town on the South Shore called Babylon. It's the perfect mix of what I love about all the other towns I have experienced. The location is perfect for work, a social life and it's close to the beach!

I have been renting there since February and decided to take the steps to buy a house. My 1st thought was to purchase a condo or co-op. But the numbers didn't make sense for me. After all the years living in apartments. I want space, a yard, driveway and no connecting walls.

So I asked a lender who knows me personally to run my credit-then I freaked out. I spent the last 2 years cleaning up the sins of my past and I knew it wasn't going to be pretty. I highly recommend that every buyer speak to a lender before they even look at 1 house for a few reasons:

1. Give yourself time to fix any mistakes on your credit report

2. Does the number you have in your head match what you can actually afford?

To use myself as an example does going from paying $1340 in rent to $3400 with mortgages and taxes work for me and my life style?

Now is the time to ask yourself these questions.

To Be Continued..........

I hope that enjoyed this first foray into blogging and maybe you can even relate. I hope that you will stick it out with me and share what you think and your insights!
