Katy Texas Prairie Conservancy holding BioBlitz events

The Katy Prairie Conservancy will be hosting what they term as BioBlitz events on Saturday October 20, 2012 at three different Katy Texas locations. BioBlitz is a one-day effort to find and identify as many living species as possible with amateurs working alongside professional scientists. The efforts goal is to catalogue the many different types of frogs, mushrooms, mammals birds, lizards, fish, flowers and numerous other organisms which all call the Katy prairie home.

The BioBlitz events will take place at three KPC  locations and at different times.

1. Begin the day at Indiangrass Preserve to look at flora andt until 11:30AM. The group will explore wetlands and the prairie.

2. The next stop is Nelson Farm Preserve examining a working rice farm and attempting find any/all critters who call that farm home. This begins at 1:00 PM and lasts until 5 PM. The are to be covered include Cypress Creek and a small forest inside the preserve.

3. Finishing this wonderful day with a twilight expedition at the Matt Cook Wildlife Viewing Platform on Warren Lakes. This segment will start at 5:30 PM and run until 8:30 PM. Warren Lake and the surrounding area will be explored and examined.
Registration is absolutely free but all participants have to register by  calling 713-523-6135 and filling out a release for an adult only and for a child and adult a separate release.  . Guests are not required to stay the entire time.

This sounds like a fun event to attend and take numerous pictures. I personally hope to make it to the Seven Lakes Pumpkin event and the Cross Creek Scarecrow festival and will not have time to try this event.
