Department of Defense Build Day brings together Civilians, Veterans, and Servicemen and Women on Habitat construction sites

Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity invites volunteers, donors, and other members of the community to a special Build Day to celebrate their partnerships with active and reserve military men and women, as well as veterans.  

 

Who:   Members of the community joining with Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity, the men and women of NIOC Sugar Grove, Reservist Scott McDonald, and YOU!



What:  Department of Defense Build Day, featuring the active duty men and women of the Sugar Grove Navy Base. Almost Heaven HFH will be building in conjunction with active duty servicemen and women, as well as veterans. We will be hanging drywall and working on siding.



When:  Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM



Where:   River Bend Gardens Building C and Lots 35B and 36B in the Painters Point neighborhood of the Potomac Heights Subdivision in Franklin, Pendleton County, WV.



Why:   To celebrate the military and volunteer service in partnership with servicemen and women, to give back to our community and its veterans, and to help families in need of safe, decent, affordable housing.  The sponsor of the Build Day is the “Appalachian Fund,” part of a bequest granted to Habitat for Humanity of West Virginia, who this year is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Habitat’s work in State of West Virginia.

Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity has served Eastern West Virginia for almost 25 years providing safe, decent, affordable homes to hundreds of families. Habitat for Humanity partners with volunteers and low-income Partner Families to build or renovate houses that are then sold to the partner families at no profit, with no interest charged on the mortgage.

Rebecca, Habitat does such good work in the community.  Nice to hear the Dept. of Defense is getting involved.  My office is sponsoring a "Make a difference day" in November to go out into the community and make repairs on homes of the elderly who can not do the work themselves; painting stairs, ramps, gutter cleaning...whatever is needed.
