Who's.amung.us ~ Free statistic tracking for your Blog

Just came a neat tracking tool for your blog that I wanted to pass along to everyone.

The who's.amung.us widget brings you stats like no one else. If you have a  Real Estate website, blog, or a social network page then this is something for you.

Once you add the widget code to your pages, then it immediately begins working for you. The widget will display the number of people currently browsing your website at the same time. This is not a page counter, think of it as a ‘people' counter. Clicking on the widget brings you to a detailed real time stats page, which shows a list of pages people are currently reading. Beside each page the number of people on that page. Popular pages are near the top of the list.

You can easily check how many people were simultaneously on your site, for any given month, day or even hour. With three different values - minimum, average and maximum.

Lastly the stats page tells you where people come from. They have an interactive map that pinpoints the location for every one of your readers -- live!

You can see I just added the widget to the right side bar of my blog. This is how you will collect your stats.

01/22/2008 04:46 PM by Dena Stevens ~ Ecobroker ~So. Colorado Realtor (Colorado Western Real Estate)

Bill...

When you run across any of these widgets that actually function on a "Member's Only" Blog please let me know.

I have seen some I would really like to have but when I try to load them they will not load. I think it's cuzz I'm a Member's Only kind of gal.

But hey...What the hell do I really know? :)

TLW...ROAR!

01/22/2008 05:16 PM by "The Lovely Wife"...Broker Bryant's Wife... (Co-Owner Tutas Towne Realty, Inc.)

Jeanette - You are welcome :)

Steve - No problem!

Jim & Maria - You are welcome as well.

01/22/2008 05:37 PM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Deborah - Hope it works well for you.

Jo - Your welcome... Anytime!

Marti - Thanks for the compliments I really appreciate it. I am hopefully providing some useful things/sites for others to use :)

Hi Linda - Thanks so much...glad you like it!

Hi Dena - What you need to do is go to your main page and hit the button of the left side of your blog that says settings. You will see a box in the upper middle of the page. This is where you insert any widget codes that you want to use so they are displayed on the right side bar of your blog. Email me if you need to.

TLW - are you saying that it doesn't work for members only posts? I think it does because a member would be at the page where it's being tracked from. I think I will go back and make this a public post though - nor reason not to.

01/22/2008 05:44 PM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

01/22/2008 07:08 PM by Guilford Connecticut Real Estate Agent, Sandra Cummings (William Raveis Real Estate)

OK, I see, you have to click on the icon before you can see the graphs and stats. I thought it would show them in the sidebar like the image in your post.

I'll have to go check that out and play with it on my other blog.  I know that when I got FeedBurner, I was surprised to find out how many people were reading but not visiting the site.

01/23/2008 11:09 PM by Lane Bailey - The REALTOR for Car People (Diamond Dwellings Realty)

BILL - Another great find, my friend.  I will go and do this immediately.  This is something that I've always been curious about tracking.  Thanks for the tip.

01/24/2008 07:10 AM by Adam Waldman - Long Island REALTOR® (RE/MAX Best)

If I add more cookies TLW will not visit. (or so she says) Another great find, Bill. I'll check it out.

01/24/2008 07:15 AM by Missy Caulk Ann Arbor Real Estate (Keller Williams Ann Arbor, Michigan)

Lane - Not sure what you mean about reading but not visiting the site - Hwo could they read something if they don't visit?

Adam - The mapping feature is pretty cool. If you put your mouse over the stars on the map it tell you where your readers are coming from. I had a few out of the country yesterday when I was looking. One in Australia of all places.

01/24/2008 07:26 AM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Thanks- I have had the question relating to Google analytics and the practicul use. Can this or are you using this to target pay per click budgets?

Bonner

01/24/2008 07:33 AM by Bonner Thomason CRS, ABR, GRI, e-Pro (Keller Williams Realty)

Hi Missy - More cookies? Heck you have brownies, cake, and ice cream too over at your site. Once I am there my computer will never let me leave :) It's a great way to capture your readers - LOL

01/24/2008 07:42 AM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Hi Bonner - I have not used any pay per click advertising so I have no experience with it. I am not sure that this tool would help with that though as this just tells you where your visitors are located not what the did to find you.

01/24/2008 08:54 AM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Great tool! When I get my New blog going on my community i will put this counter in for stats.

01/24/2008 11:22 AM by Paul Viau , Guaranty GMAC ,Halifax, N.S. (Guaranty GMAC Halifax)

Hi Marc - It is a pretty neat tool. It tells you the city and state a viewer is coming from.

01/24/2008 03:25 PM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Bill...

I didn't check this particular one.

I just know that every time I try to load any kind of a widget they don't work on my Blog.

Do you think that might be because a 'member's only' Blog is also a 'no follow' Blog?

TLW...ROAR!

01/24/2008 03:29 PM by "The Lovely Wife"...Broker Bryant's Wife... (Co-Owner Tutas Towne Realty, Inc.)

Hi TLW - You are probably correct. Since a post that is marked "members only" can not been seen by the general public it would stand to reason that it may fowl things up. I am not sure if it wouldn't work completely though because everyone who is a member should still be able to be tracked.

01/24/2008 03:33 PM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Hmm...

I am going to give this a shot. Perhaps tomorrow when I have more time.

I'll let you know whether or not this works on a Blog that is completely 'member's only' .

TLW...ROAR!

01/24/2008 03:39 PM by "The Lovely Wife"...Broker Bryant's Wife... (Co-Owner Tutas Towne Realty, Inc.)

TLW - That would be great...you have my curiosity up now. It really is an interesting tool - I had visitors from Japan, Australia, India, China, and Canada, and a military base in europe as well as many of the US states today.

01/24/2008 03:49 PM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Bill~Very nice!  I love this tool.  I found it on Linda Scanlan's blog the other day and it's so easy to upload.  I love the way it can be customized to your colors, etc. (mine, yes pink hearts).  Have a great night my friend and Thank YOU for sharing.

01/24/2008 07:29 PM by Julie Neerings~Lifting Hearts ♥ Building Dreams~Utah REALTOR® (Keller Williams Salt Lake City)

Hi Julie - It really is cool. I like the fact that you can see people from other countries visiting your blog. I think Linda found it through my post....she is one of my buds!!

01/24/2008 08:24 PM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

I think this could be too much information.  I don't know if I want to know! :o) Seriously, sounds like a great tool.  I will have to research further.

01/24/2008 11:44 PM by Ginger Wilcox, Marin County Realtor (Pacific Union, Marin Real Estate)

Ginger - Honestly I don't think it is enough. The one cool thing about this tool is the map.By placing your mouse over the stars that are on a map you can see where your visitors are coming from. I have had a few that are out of the country which is neat.

01/25/2008 07:07 AM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Bill you're great. I've already added it to my website and to profile. I can use all the help I can get.

01/25/2008 07:04 PM by Maria Couto,ABR,CRS-Berkeley Heights & Long Hill Real Estate Homes for Sale (RE/MAX Classic Group-Berkeley Heights Realtor For Sale/Sold)

Maria - Glad to be of help. It is a neat little tool to be able to see all the far away places people are reading your blog :)

01/25/2008 07:44 PM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Bill,

Great tip!  How long have you been using the tracking device?  What does this cost or what are the negatives in using the widget?

I appreciate your comments and your professionalism.  I would be happy to add you as an associate if you would like to do the same.

01/26/2008 10:25 AM by Zen Ziejewski (Prudential California Realty)

Kent - Thanks - I love the mapping feature.

Zen - I just added it this week. It is free. I see no disadvantages. The mapping feature is great as you can see in real time where someone is viewing your blog. I have had visitors from all over the world which I was not expecting. I will add you as an associate :)

01/26/2008 11:24 AM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Neat tool Bill.  What I'm wondering is where did you get the geo-tool on the right side of your blog.  The one that presents a hello statement to the readers location?

01/28/2008 09:46 AM by Bill Somerset, Realtor, Your Dover NH Real estate agent (Century21 Central Falls Realty)

Bill - You will find that piece of technology from Karen George here at AR. She is a member here that created ti. Karen has been battling cancer and has not been around in a while. You will probably be able to find it somewhere in one of her blog posts though.

01/28/2008 11:12 AM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Bill - I replaced clustrmaps with maps.amung.us over a month ago and much prefer it. Thanks.

01/29/2008 08:40 AM by Tom Plant - Murrieta Real Estate Expert - Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage (Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage)

Shannon - Thanks! The mapping feature is really cool as you can see all the places around the world where people are reading your blog. I think you will be amazed.

01/29/2008 05:21 PM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Bill Thanks, I am experimenting with this one. I just always want to know as much as I can about these widgets safety/envasion of privacy the likes. How comfortable are you with the people counter?

01/31/2008 09:15 PM by Dionne Morgan REALTOR®,GRI, e-PRO (Realty World Solano Realty)

Dionne - There are no privacy issues that I can see. The best feature is a map that provides the location of where the person viewing your blog is located. The cool thing about it is there are quite a few outside the country viewing. The counter is just that it tells you how many people are looking. There is no personal information exchanged.

01/31/2008 10:13 PM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Bill thank you so much for your immediately response too my concerns regarding the widget use as it relates to privacy. Of course, I didn't really expect you to have in-depth knowledge on this new tool.  I just wanted to draw from tour personal experience.

I would like to commend you for the professionalism you have demonstrated. If your prompt response to me is of any reflection of how you handle your daily professional life,

I am sure you are a unique breath of fresh air for all that have had the pleasure and opportunity to engage in a business transaction with you.

 Little things do matter!

02/01/2008 07:07 PM by Dionne Morgan REALTOR®,GRI, e-PRO (Realty World Solano Realty)

Dionne - My pleasure and thank you for your kind words. The fact that you are back here making these comments tells me you work the same way. My hat goes off to you as well :) Hope you have fun with the new widget.
