Are you at all like me?

Do you ever try and think of your Top Ten books/movies/songs etc?

Last night I read TIME's 100 best English-language novels published since 1923

and I was amazed to discover my favourite book of all time was not included:  East of Eden

How could this be?  This is the greatest book of all time!!!  It won a Pulitzer for goodness sake!!    Even Jimmy Dean couldn't do it justice in the movie :0)

Lev Grossman and Richard Lacayo, the critics, included titles that had become great movies and, in my opinion, were better than the original books:

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest or

Deliverance  just to name two.

I did love the reporters' quote at the bottom though:

"Lists like this one have two purposes. One is to instruct. The other of course is to enrage. We’re bracing ourselves for the e-mails that start out: “You moron! You pathetic bourgeoise insect! How could you have left off…(insert title here).” We say Mrs. Dalloway. You say Mrs. Bridge. We say Naked Lunch. You say Breakfast at Tiffanys. Let’s call the whole thing off? Just the opposite—bring it on."

I would love to earn a spot in your Top Ten - tell me, what do I need to do to earn this title?  Let's get together and learn how best we can satisfy each others Buying and Selling needs.  Call me, Susan Emo, and allow me the honour of becoming your Favourite Gananoque Realtor!

If you're thinking about selling, I'd love to meet with you and provide a Market Analysis and go over my Marketing Plan - it is the little things that make the difference.**

Hi Susan - Steinbeck would definitely be in my top ten, but it would be for The Grapes of Wrath, which along with East of Eden, were both great movies.

Susan - It was interesting reading the top 100 list.  Although many of the titles are so familiar, I don't think I've actually read many of them.  Perhaps this would make a good New Year's resolution, to work my way through the top 100 books!

For a  couple of worthwhile books I would go with "Getting a Life" and "Your money or your Life". Same Authors.

Thanks Roger!!

Sally - what a great idea.  I have a friend who is rereading Winnie the Pooh and loving it!

Rob -  who's the author.  I googled the name but got too many different hits.

Loved 'East of Eden'....the book that is. Never saw the movie if there was one. Deliverance? Seriously? Hmmm...

Hi Shar -  the East of Eden movie only covered a few chapters of the book; an epic fail in my opinion.    I do know that I am going to have to read the book Deliverance because I just cant  imagine it being worthy of being on the Top 100 list.  Hopefully, I'll be proven wrong!  I hate investing my time in a bad book

I love top 10 lists.  I usually do them about movies and I did do one about favorite pizza restaurant fairly recently.  My favorite book?  I'll have to think about that one.  I have 3 favorite authors...Stephen King, James Patterson and John Grisham.

Well here I am suppose to be working and I am lost in the top 100 books.  It brought me all the way back to high school.  I loved so many of those chosen but sad to see no Of Mice and Men.
