Networking Is The New Cold Calling
I was looking for topics about attending networking events about the pros and cons and came across this blog from Carie Shapiro from Texas. Great photo and perspective on networking and it's advantages to learning about others and helping your business.
Work can be slow at times. When business starts feeling a bit lackluster, I discover innovative ways to improve and reinvent myself. Attempt to potentially define unexplored, professional opportunities. Perhaps even venture off into unchartered territories. It shouldn't be too difficult to find my newest niche, right? After all, I'm creative, driven, personable, passionate, unquestionably persistent, and highly effective. Or, as my Grandma Kate used to say: "What's Not To Like?" Without a doubt, the world is evolving at a fast and furious pace. And, in order to increase our chances for success, it seems we must struggle to keep up – or risk being left behind. Nevertheless, in my opinion, maintaining sharp networking skills and developing solid business relationships through face-to-face contact will never go out of style. Ever.
If anyone is looking for me, I can usually be found attending some sort of unique networking event, presentation, seminar, or workshop. Every week. Of every month. Typically, at some point during these events, I am trading information with professional people I have never met before. And, I don't mean shove-my-business-card-in-someone's-face-kind-of-networking either. I mean really-getting-to-know-people-kind-of-networking. It is truly amazing how significant information is garnered through basic communications, asking questions, and listening to others talk about themselves. Consequently, you never know when people out there will need to hire your expertise. Perhaps they have someone in their sphere of influence who will need to hire you as well. One guarantee is for sure, though: Nobody will need you if nobody knows you.
While having a little fun at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, I was reminded of the following, undeniable fact: Since I have as much of a chance of being 5' 7" as I have of getting a job at the Playboy Mansion, I must never give up on those tried and true, timeless, and proven reliable business-building techniques on which I've come to rely. Because, no matter how good you look in bunny ears – you're probably going to need something else to fall back on.
