Castello di Amorosa, Napa Valley
Castello di Amorosa, Napa Valley

I get asked quite often about which wineries to visit here in the Napa Valley. Today, I am going to feature Castello di Amorosa which I often hear is the most visited winery in the Napa Valley. I wasn't able to find any proof of this for many wineries don't advertise the number of visitors they get each year, but I have heard it to be so by many who work here in the various wine tasting rooms I have visited lately.

This undertaking to build an authentic castle here in the Napa Valley was a quest of Dario Sattui, owner of very popular Sattui Winery on White Lane about a mile south of downtown St Helena. It took 15 years to construct this 13th century Castle of Love, this is the translation of the name, and the 121,000 square foot complex boasts a drawbridge, secret passage, torture chamber has an authentic 300-year-old iron maiden plus 121 rooms.

Please visit this special place when here in the Napa Valley and tell them Curtis sent you.

Curtis, I will have to book mark this page so hopefully I can remember and print it out for our  next trip to Napa. That is a very complete description. We are familar Sattui but the wines they sell at the other facility in our opinion are not that good.

Curtis,

How were the wines! I was told my some other wineries that the wines there were not that good! So I was wondering from your experience what you thought!

Yolanda

I have only tried one and didn't think to much about it. Surprising, the wines from Sattui are usually quite good and reasonably priced.

Kathleen, come up some day and I will take you there and Del Dotto, one of my favorites.

cheers cvc

Hi Curtis,

We need to visit this castle the next trip and hopefully the wine is better than the stuff they sell out on the main drag.

I hope you had a good weekend.

I don't get to Napa Valley often, even though I live close by. But when I do, I love to visit this place, it's beautiful!

Amazing. I have often visited California but I haven't taken the time to do the vineyards. This is a must. Just added a new item to my bucket list!

Hi

It was built and completed about 4 years ago but did take a long time to finish. Like I said, I always hear it is the most visited winery but if you ever drive by Sattui on a summer weekend, it is so busy you would think it id. cheers cvc

Curtis, what a beautifully written blog post. I feel almost as if I were there. Actually, the post makes me want to visit. I belong to a wine club and am bookmarking this page. I will suggest sampling wines from this winery at our next meeting. Thank you for the suggestion.

Curtis,

I am aware of the castle from a friend who has visited and from reading about it in the local press. I have to make a visit. We love to take the occasional weekend in the wine country but usually Napa or Calistoga. Must venture out!
