Washington, DC's Dancing Crab: Reopened at Last
About 30 years ago, when I first moved to Washington, DC, a date brought me to dinner at the Dancing Crab in Tenleytown. It was one of those really funky looking places where you just know the crabs will be wonderful - the kind of place that my old grandmother could pick out from miles away.
And over the years, I've enjoyed many wonderful meals of Maryland crabs with all the accouterments - hushpuppies, potato salad and beer. Then, a few weeks ago, I brought some friends there to find it closed!
Oh no! We had to cross the street and eat sushi!
Coming home from work, I noticed a sign saying it was open again, so we went back last night.
It's open indeed, and it's under new management! When you walk through the door, the fellow on the left will greet you!
The new management? Not quite!
The new owners are locals who were patrons for many years. When they heard about the business opportunity, they jumped on it. There are few changes. When you order wine, the glasses are cooler than they used to be. And the wine list is expanded.
But they didn't mess with the basics - the crabs!
They actually had jumbos, and they were big and delicious!
The Dancing Crab is located on Wisconsin Avenue, just north of Brandywine Street NW.
And if you leave your business card on the maitre d's tray, he might even buy a house from you if you are brave enough to let him into your car. OK, he's not exactly flirtworthy, is he?
