It is widely known (well, maybe not widely, but in our area at least) that Gig Harbor, WA, is perhaps the most beautiful spot in the country. Surrounded on all sides by water, framed by Mt. Rainier to the east and the Olympic Mountains to the west, and majestic evergreen trees growing up all around, it is tough to beat the beauty of this small town nestled just south of Seattle.
There are many spectacular parks designed to give residents and visitors access to the most beautiful spots of this most beautiful town. Perhaps the most beautiful, and most versatile, is Kopachuck State Park on Gig Harbor's western side. Whether you are looking for an easy picnic, a day at the beach, a spot to launch your kayaks, or a weekend camping trip, Kopachuck State Park is the place to do it all.
There are plenty of soft dirt trails winding through the tall growth forest, surrounded by ferns and small creeks. Each corner presents a new view of the Puget Sound, Olympic Mountains, and the Key Peninsula. The park has set up several well placed picnic tables throughout the grounds for visitors to stop and rest or enjoy a scenic lunch.
Kopachuck State Park also offers many private camping spots for those looking to spend more than just a day in this little piece of paradise. When you come to Kopachuck, make sure you bring your kayaks, canoes, or other form of paddle boats. It's tough to find smoother, warmer water in the Pacific Northwest.
Kids will love walking along the beach, discovering seashells, starfish, and the occasional sea otters. Harbor seals are a common sight swimming just off of Kopachuck's shores. Coyotes are also a frequent visitor to the park, so make sure you clean up any food that you bring.
Although you'll feel that you're miles away from anything, Kopachuck is located right in the midst of residential Gig Harbor communities. Voyager Elementary School and Kopachuck Middle School sit right at the park's entrance, and a few million dollar estates reside within the park's grounds. If you need to rent kayaks, stop by the grocery store, or steal away to a movie theater, downtown Gig Harbor is just a 10 minute drive away.
Come visit this hidden jewel of the Pacific Northwest, but be prepared to stay! Many folks have come for what they thought was a visit, only to end up finding their forever home.

Hey, I grew up in Gig Harbor! What a delight to see a piece of my old home town. When I saw the title of your blog, I knew I just had to check it out because I am probably one of the few people on here that know what Kopachuck is. It sure is beautiful as I remember it. It's been nearly 10 years since I've been back.
