18 Comments on Show MY Listing to YOUR Buyer at My Convenience???????
Hi Sally, that is crazy. You gave a great reply.
I can't imagine asking the listing agent to show my buyer a property. In fact, I'd prefer that the listing agent not be there at all! (Accompanied showings are the norm in my area.)
Seriously - they thought you would be showing their client the home. Sombody needs to get some training from their broker and take some CE courses. That is craziness.
kathy: no kidding!
Christine: You and me both! It gives them time to speak freely and not have the feeling of being looked over and rushed.
Anna: The agent has twice as many years under her belt than I do. On another note I have twice the transactions lol.
I can't imagine asking that of a listing agent. And I don't know why they would want to. If they aren't available to show the property, they should have an agent in their office do it for them.

Sally, I am thinking/hoping/wishing that it was a mis-type and that the agent meant that the seller could allow it at his/her convenience. (I like to think on the positive side... :) )
Did you ever consider you might have misunderstood the message? Sometimes when people are in a hurry, they don't express things well. Maybe they were trying to be most accommodating, as to the time and date, not meaning at all that you should show it for her but that you could schedule an appointment for her to show it at your convenience.
Just a thought.
I've had a few agents call and ask if I could show a buyer my listing as they were 1) busy or 2) out of town. I won't drop what I"m doing to jump through hoops but if it is reasonable I will likely show the home as my goal is to get it sold.
Van: Oh, no....no misunderstanding. The exact words (went back to the email) is this:
My client is a XXXXXX and interested in this listing. Can you meet him at the property at your convenience? His schedule is flexible, so let me know what works for you.
Sally
Well I have to say I have NOT surprised but I would be unlikely to comply without a better understanding of WHY the agent, who presumably is representing the buyer, is not able to show the property in order TO effectively represent the buyer. TEll you what - YOU refer your buyer to me, I will work the deal and pay you a referral fee.
Jeff
Jeff: That's what I say .... I couldn't believe it. I read it to my husband to get his feedback and he said....so what..she's giving you the client? lol. Bottom line is that I have heard of situations as this...but usually it is the buyer that calls up and says...oh, my agent is busy so can you show us? This is a first for me to actually have an agent ask me.
Wow, that really takes the cake! I can't even imagine any scenario where a agent would ask this. It's NUTS!
Doesn't surprise me at all. I've had these requests and turn them down unless their buyer is a customer. Only happened once. If they don't have the time to show homes, they should look for other employment.
Sally,
That's a lot of nerve. They want you to do their job and have your client pay them as well.......NOPE. I dont think so. There is always at least one of us that make the rest look bad.
Have another great day
Leander
At first I thought that the buyer's agent (and I use that term loosely!) must have just mispoken. But when you provide the text, it is clear what they meant. Unreal!
Unfortunately, I'm not surprised by this. There's a brokerage in our area that puts a note in MLS for every one of their listings that the selling broker must accompany the buyer at all showings and inspections. Clearly this has been an issue in our area. Sigh...
wow, I would have asked if they wanted you to take on their client as YOUR client as well. Unbelievable what some people try..............
Sally, never had that happen, but have had agents call in a panic because they have someone that must see it right away and they are out of town, etc. I have opened the house for buyers of agents I know... if it is someone I don't know I probably would have them get an agent from their office. It has been few and far between. But this was just inexcusable.
