Dan Wright marker Our Our organization officially became incorporated on October 3, 2005 as an official entity, and gained our 501C3 status in September of 2007.  We are dedicated to preserve, promote, record and displaying historical material, properties or articles, providing for the dissemination  and display of such materials, and  encouraging historical inquiry and interest.  Our community, as small as it is, is rich with history.  Some of it has been told, some is just now being brought to light, and much more is to be uncovered and brought to fruition.  We are looking forward to being a vital part of our community, and we hope that you will join us in our endeavors.  As a fledgling organization, we bring an excitement, a thirst for knowledge, and of course, a deep interest in the history of our township.  Since 2003, our main members have been our mainstay, devoting much time and effort into this organization.  The society needs volunteers on many levels.  We have an extensive collection of historic research materials for you to read through and get familiar with on the history of the township.  Committees will be formed to branch out into more areas that need covered.  Join us in the fun-explore our history!

Our beginnings start with our primary historian and board member, Louis Chmiel, who is a Wright Scholar.  Lou caught our eye with his story a few years back  in a local newspaper about the ancestors of Orville and Wilbur Wright being buried in the Bethel East Cemetery. .  Our founding members met with Lou, and the spark ignited, leading us to where we are now.  The pioneers of aviation had their ancestral roots with Asahel Wright and his family, who lived on a 113 acre farm in Bethel Township, at the southeast corner of what we now know as State Route 202 and State Route 40.  If you have not had a chance to visit the gravesite, you should try to make a trip there to see the improvements that many people have made in the restoration of the ancestral Wright family graves.

Hi Lorna,

Thanks for connecting with me today!  Nice to see you on ActiveRain.  Who know when I'll be in Ohio but I'll look you up when I'm near!  Love the MSP logo on your profile page!

Lorna,

Who, at the historical society, could tell me what the old [1850 census] District numbers represent in today's terms. Specifically, I'm looking for District 104 in Bethel Township. Where would that be found today? I'm trying to narrow down a search.

Thanks, NJ

Norma,

if you could email me at lorna.furderer@realliving.com, I am working on information on that district for you.  Our historian is checking on her maps, and you might also want to try (if you haven't already) this link:  http://www.tdn-net.com/genealogy/miamico.htm

Hope that helps, and give me a shout via email!
