Beyond Passing the Bread - Food Sources for Those Who Need Them!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Don Sabinske, Sabinske & Associates Inc. 539MN

Yesterday’s  post about Passing the Bread in Zimmerman led me to check out more food shelves.

Last year, Second Harvest Heartland collected, warehoused and distributed more than 70 million pounds of food and is a member of Feeding America which is a national network of food banks. Locally, this impacts organizations such as Catholic Charities, St. Cloud Diocese, Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Club of Central Minnesota and others.

There is also Fare for All, which asks for some money but gives a good portion of a family’s monthly grocery bill reduction in return.

If you are aware of other programs besides CAER which I have highlighted in the past, please let me know, and I will be happy to post about them.

A country that gives trillions to foreigners yet let their own go hungry what a shame.

Hi Don -- I think it's great to ask your local readers to share their knowledge of other charities that need some extra attention -- a great community spirt.   Nice job.

You just rock for highlighting these food banks.  We should always do what we can to take care of our communities.

Great share Don... I'm involved with several here in the area. Though we're coming out of this recession, there are those that are still having one heck of a time and I'm happy help as I can. We need to keep up the efforts. These wonderful organizations are having big demands for their assistance. Glad you're lending a hand!

Great localism post. I'm all about helping families have an easier time during the holiday season. I've already donated to one foodbank, and will be donating several more times. It's really something I do all year anyway, but I probably give more around the holidays.
