What an amazing day! The nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon
Sunday, October 21 was a monumental day in Columbus Ohio. Marathon runners and athletes of all shapes sizes and ages gathered together to show their support in the streets of Columbus Ohio. This year there’s one more reason to celebrate because the Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s been named as the title beneficiary for the Columbus Marathon in 2012.
This race is to sponsor kids at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital and urges folks to join the children’s champions team to double the impact of their fundraising efforts.
This year there was four races to choose from; half marathon, wheelchair race, a half marathon walk and a full marathon walk. The total distance was 26.2 miles and over 18,000 participants walked, ran, and fielded their way through Columbus neighborhoods. The course went through Bexley and Old Town East, German village, the OSU campus and Grandview and the Victorian village before finishing at Nationwide Boulevard. At the end, participants picked up their medals and food bags ready to regroup and recharge.
Kids were not left out either; there was inflatable’s for youngsters and live music to keep them energized throughout the afternoon. And kids are really the reason for this marathon; each mile is represented by a patient at the nationwide Children’s Hospital. Patients and their families cheered and rooted on their fellow runners. Don’t forget about the elite runners and athletes; the elite men’s and women’s the words in the marathon and a half marathon will be based on gun time and the total purse for the 2012 event is $40,000 which is the most in any marathon in Ohio according to Columbus Marathon.com
