Montgomery County, Maryland Traffic Safety Notice

There may be cameras at selected intersections throughout Montgomery County, Maryland to photograph cars impinging on the pedestrian crosswalk as they come to a stop at a red light. In fact, there is a solid white line JUST BEFORE the pedestrian crosswalk at all intersections and if cars do not stop BEFORE THE SOLID WHITE LINE they will be photographed and issued a ticket.

Visitors need to know that there are also many speed cameras in Montgomery County.  Drivers need to carefully watch and observe the speed limits.  Favorite camera placements seem to be where there is a quick speed limit reduction.

Drive carefully and watch for bikers.  A school bus hit a biker this week.

Roy: This is a good read for Montgomery County drivers and a reminder to slow down and drive defensively.

Roy, tried that here in Southwest Florida. The cameras were removed after many court battles. While they were in operation some people actually improved their driving habits. A few even stopped before making a right turn on red. The others received a ticket in the mail! Enjoy your day!

Good Morning Roy, that is fantastic advice, My city has been repaonting lines with the this standard of placing a stop line before the cross walk. It is nice as it stands out. We do not have the cameras YET, but i am sure one day they will start popping up.  Have a great Thursday

Good morning, Roy.  As people realize where the cameras are they may be more cautious.  Maybe.  People are in such a hurry these days.  Slow down and enjoy life and let other enjoy theirs.  That is my thought fot the day.

It is always good to receive your comments. Visitors to the metropolitan area of the District of Columbia have fair warning that there are more traffic cameras than might be imagined.  It is easy for a careless driver to get several tickets during a single day.  The tickets come in the mail with a photograph of the vehicle and the license plate.

Roy, traffic cameras seem to become more common around the country. It is important for drivers to remember the rules of the road and abide by them not only to avoid a fine but foremost for safety!

Roy, we do not have any traffic cameras here.  Since moving here it really amazes me how courteous drivers are to let incoming traffic in.  With all the people and cars in Montgomery County cameras are a must to slow drivers down.

Yes, Rebecca, urban areas with heavy traffic need need controls for the public safety.  The traffic cameras have also become major income producers and they are unlikely to be discontinued.
