At the first class, the instructor talked about the Rule of Thirds and filling the frame and crop with your camera (before the shot, not after).  Way too much to include in this post and worthy of enrolling in a class just to see what can be done.  For the second class, next week, we are to bring in some photos for critique.  I looked through some of mine and thought that the photo below is a good one to show 'filling the frame' and diagonals and finding triangles. It was just by chance that I got a depth of field that I like.  Whew!!!

I will let you know what the instructor and the class thought after the critique.  I would appreciate any of your criticisms now, so that I am prepared for next week.

Yes, I hope you are taking good notes, so you can share with those of us who simply 'point and shot' and hope for the best!

Valerie, That is a beautiful photo to take with you. Aren't you just loving your photography class? I found a photography instructor that is excellent and I can't get enough.

That sounds like it would be a very interesting class Valerie. There are probably all kinds of "tricks of the trade" that we'd never think about unless we learned how.

I think the flower and picture are just beautiful! I am sure there will be praise instead of critique given.

Hi Valerie, Congratulations on taking the class. Your illustration photo will be a good one to take to class. It would be interesting what the instructor says about this photo. I can't imagine very much negative, if any.

John:  Next Tuesday I will be ready for some criticism.  How else do you learn?

Than:  I will definitely share.

Christine:  XX OO XX

Thanks you Beth.  We will see what is said on Tuesday.

Debbie:  This guy is so enthusiastic.  There are three people in the class who follow him from course to course.  I may become a Gilles groupie myself.

Malcolm:  I want to know those secrets.

Sussie:  Well, it would be nice to get compliments but what can I do to make it better?

William:  It is a class critique so I expect the other students to have something to say.  I will let you know.

Valerie - this photo is perfectly framed and an excellent choice for your next class! Don't you love when your camera captures the perfect depth of field without you doing anything?! Many of my best photos where luck, not technical knowledge of my camera, lol. Best of luck and can't wait to see your future work!

I love when the background is out of focus and the item being captured is in fine detail. Love it!

Just a quick update after the class.  The instructor did not leave enough time for us to present our photos for comments so I have nothing to report.  I do love the clematis and the wood and the angles.  Really, the photo is for me so I will just continue to enjoy it.
