PARKS & PLAYGROUNDS OF BARRINGTON, RI
Time to repost this blog I originally wrote almost 3 years ago. I believe this introductory piece to the parks and playgrounds in Barrington, RI is timeless and helpful for those new to the area. I hope you feel the same.
Barrington has a couple of very nice parks & playgrounds. If you enjoy fishing, boating, swingsets & slides, basketball, baseball or picnic's there is a park or playground that will fit your needs.
Latham Park- located at the end of Latham Drive and running along Shore Rd in the Bay Springs section of Barrington. This park is next to Lavin's Marina and has a boat launch. You fish from the rocks along the edge of the park and Narragansett Bay. The playground has swings, kiddie swings, a slide and a basketball court. There are benches for sitting and taking in the senic views of the bay as well as watching the kids.
Latham Park is a well known spot that locals will go to watch storms come up the bay. You have a view of the Mt. Hope Bridge on a clear day or night.
Kid's Kove Playground- This playground is behind the town hall & community center, and next to the Barrington Public Library. This playground is extremely popular with children of all ages. It has several different style's of swing set for younger and older children, a rope pyramid, rope bridges, towers to climb on, slides, standing puzzles type games to play, and a wooden gazabo to climb on and in. The surface is a sponge type material to absorb those tumbles that are bound to happen.
Haines Memorial State Park- This park straddles Washington Rd and Narragansett Ave in Barrington. It is considered green space in Barrington. The East Bay Bike Path cuts through the park. Haines Park is divided into two distinct parks. The Washington Rd side of the park is soccer and baseball fields, as well as walking trails. It also has the local dog park. The dog park was an added addition to the park in the last 10 years. The Narragansett Ave side of the park is used for picnic's and cook out types of gatherings for families and groups. It over looks Narragansett Bay and is next to the Cove Haven Marina. There is a boat launch and spots for fishing. It is a great place to go when you want to read a good book and enjoy the weather, or just watch the boats come and go. On Wednesday's from 2-6 during the Spring, Summer & Fall there is a Farmer's Market with delectable items from the garden, as well as breads and plants.
Barrington RI parks and playgrounds offers many hours of enjoyment for children, adults and our four legged friends. Take advantage and visit the parks for some fun in the sun, or just a little peace and quiet.
