In anticipation of potential effects of Hurricane Sandy, Gaithersburg’s Public Works Department is urging residents to exercise good judgment when placing materials out for recycling pick-up. At this time, the City has not cancelled any scheduled recycling collections due to the uncertainty of the severity and timing of this storm. However, the City does ask that residents do not put out recycling materials when high winds are predicted.
I was listening to the radio this morning and heard a few updates about Sandy's progress. Sounds like a whopper of a storm. Be safe and take care... It's always better to be prepared, than surprised!
Roy, thanks for the update on the hurricane. Erie's utility workers are on alert to travel to your area if needed. Erie might get a lot of rain, but your area is more prone to extreme weather. Be safe.
It is good to receive your observations. Millions of people are closely watching the path of this storm.

Good to hear from you, William. You are correct. Those that have air travel plans in the east may see many canceled flights. It might be a good idea to defer Monday and Tuesday trips until later in the week. You can make great efforts to arrive at a destination and then find that the power is off and the offices are closed.

I have memories of a huge storm aftermath in New Jersey when I was a kid and my mother would not let me go out until it nearly subsided. I finally convinced her to let me go out earlier and to see the boardwalk under water and the streets being navigated by boat is a sight to behold. For a kid, it is an adventure...for businesses, cities and adults...a nightmare...good post
Roy - Great information! We've had heavy rain for the last two days, but so far today is sunny, windy, but sunny.
We have a beautiful sunny day in Maryland. It is a good time for all residents to prepare for the approaching storm.

Roy, I wish I'd seen this in time to send it to all the family and friends I left behind when my husband retired to the mountains of East Tennessee. Apparently they all got by much better than the news led us to expect, but they did all they could to prepare for the worst.
If you ever have folks who want to swap the traffic and more hectic pace of life there for some beautiful mountains, just let me know. We miss a lot about that area, but life here in Johnson City is good also, in a different way.
Thanks for a good list. I'll save it, although we seem never to have weather emergencies here - very rarely even snow, but 4 beautiful seasons.
Excellent post on emergency preparedness list regardless of where you live.
We get our fair share of warnings here in Jacksonville, FL. We seldom really get pounded but your suggestions apply to us in spades. Always great to have a thorough checklist.
