FL Amendment 1 vote YES on January 29th 2008

Many people have asked about the amendment 1 for Florida homeowners and tax payer to vote on this January 29th.  We  believe that the homeowners should vote YES for amendment 1, and we can go from there for further tax cuts.

Florida need some immediate relief, and you may or may not know, it took what seemed like FOREVER to get THIS on the ballot!  Yes, we all agree that $50,000 tax exemption is not enough!  But what it does do is give MORE relief for the lower income homeowner bracket, which includes many lower income and middle class families.   The biggest feature is the Save our Homes Portability option that we do not have now!  I have talked to many people that say that they have never moved when they wanted to, this could include UPsizing when they have a larger family, Downsizing because they have no kids, or even retirees that want to move closer to family, the beach, or in Florida just a little farther north, where it's less congested and home prices are a bit cheaper.

Now if we could just get the insurance reform, and Subprime delinqencies straightened out, FLORIDA would be on top of their game!

Here is John Rurkowski, our Managing Broker explaining his take on Amendment 1 for Florida's property tax reform.

Hey Katrina. Thanks for e-mailing me. Unfortunately, I think I may have had a change of heart on this one. I keep wondering if we hold out, would they be forced to do something to help the business owners who can't afford their property taxes, and the seasonal residents who will not be buying here anymore because they can't afford the taxes. I guess we'll have to see what everyone decides. I know FAR is pushing hard for it, but I have some grave concerns. In addition to the commercial property and non-homesteaded properties, there's the fact that the portability is NOT what most people think it is. I know that many people need immediate relief. But at what cost in the long run?

No way!  Especially after Charlie Crist said he wasnt afraid of "us", when questioned what he would do if the amendment failed.

Very good information, Katrina--Florida voters need to get out there and weigh in on this issue regardless of position, I especially liked the fact that he points out that this Amendment transcends party lines.

Vote!

A band-aid is better than nothing if you are bleeding to death.  The state politicians have been on their own soap boxes trying to get them self noticed.

Save our homes is not a fair tax, but it will never go away, the majority of homeowners would never get rid of it.  The bottom line is that the state is in a recession, and taxes need to come down.

Any start is better than none,  I agree that the portability issue was not played up enough. I have two buyers that have been on the fence due to fear of losing the accrued tax savings from staying put so long.

The portability component fixes a big flaw with the SOH deal, the 25,000 increase is really a joke, but it would help our economy because folks considering to move to Florida would see this as a plus.  Even if it hollow.

Vote yes on 1!!

Tomorrow is the day, and we have to have a 60% majority to pass.   Like me, I'm sure you believe that $50,000 exemption is not enough (considering the average home price when SOH was created compared to now).  Some believe that the portability in the tax savings would have an immediate impact on our real estate market, thus effecting the economy.

I don't think that I personally have ever been so "ON THE FENCE" about any issue as I am with this one!  SO whatever your belief is, get out there and VOTE
