Where Oh Where Has Our Little Friend Gone?

The weather is crisper, the leaves are falling and everyone is hunkering down for the winter months ahead.
We've noticed fewer and fewer birds flying around and today we noticed....our little friend is missing.

Did he go south for the winter too?

Chipmunks and squirrels are stocking up around here too.  I really like your photos the one with the stuffed cheek is great!

Always fun and a pleasure to watch. However, if they hang out at your property, those tunnels they dig are not good for many reasons and if they don't find food, they start on your flowers etc...Eventually, like your post says.....the seasons kick in

Good morning Al/Peggy.  (S)He looks like those chubby cheeks are storing up a bunch of peanuts for a long winter.

This guy was so cute John, he knew he could stuff more in if he shelled them first!

Those tunnels are the issue Richie!

Yep, he is well prepared Anita!

Hi Al & Peggy - Cute little guy. He's probably holed up in your attic, surrounded by lots of nice insulation and a big supply of the nuts you've been feeding him all summer. He'll check back in with you next spring.

I'll bet he found a nice warm spot to hide out till spring.

Al & Peggy - Oh, what a cute little guy!  Is he a chipmunk?  Great photos - can't believe how close you got.  I guess as wonderful as your hospitality was, instinct kicked in and he's built himself a nice, warm nest.  It must be getting a little chilly where you are.

Al and Peggy,

I've got some distant relatives living under my deck. Love the way they run with their tails up.

Al & Peggy, Hopefully he stocked up on his favorite foods and is taking a respite in his burrow 'till Spring with his honey!

Al and Peggy, any seemingly well-fed cats in the neighbourhood ;-)

Al & Peggy, well I'm not sure where "your" little friend went, but I can tell you that I had more than a couple of chipmunk families living at my house in Illinois and they've all been relocated to a not so nearby farmers field.  I might also add; following Chris #10 question that a local seemingly well fed cat has been hanging around my house.

They sure are cute but I know where they went.  They're in the attic chewing on your tv and internet cables.

I hope a hawk didn't get the little guy.  He is such a healthy-looking chipmunk with lovely coloring.  Hopefully he is just taking a nap.

Just as Jane offered that little guy could have been a snack for a hawk. Just the other day, as I was sitting at the kitchen table with the lap top, I noticed a flutter on the lawn. As I looked out, a hawk was grabbing something in the yard and flew away with it.

Good morning you two! Honestly, they are cute but mighty destructive-nesting in some attic and chewing up the cable and electrical wires! No wondewr their cheeks are chubby!

He is stocking up for a long winter indeed.  I'm sure you'll see him again come spring!
