Vampires are lurking in your Clark County, WA home!

Vampire PowerThey are there 24/7, lurking in nearly every room of your Clark County, WA home - vampires slowly sucking you dry. Well, that may be a bit dramatic, but collectively, these vampires are taking a big toll.

Energy vampires suck power from your home without providing any benefit. Also called standby power and phantom load, this drain can account for 10% of your yearly energy costs. Still not worried?

Vampire PowerConsider this, vampire energy sucks more than 100 billion kilowatt hours out of the annual energy consumption in the U.S. That adds up to a loss of about $10 billion. It’s a pretty hefty economic and environmental toll.

Plus, the phantom loads are growing each year. Therefore, plugging those electrial leaks, and slaying these vampires makes good sense. What can you do?

Buy Energy Star. ENERGY STAR products are among the lowest power consuming in their category in standby mode.

Be sure to use the  ENERGY STAR
power management settings on your computer and monitor, so they go into power save mode when not in use.

Use a power strip as a central "turn off" point when you are done using equipment, which completely disconnects the power supply. You can use one for your computer and all peripheral equipment, and another for your home electronics (TV, VCR, DVD, stereo, gaming). Keep in mind though that if you've set a timer to wake up a product, such as programming a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) to record a program, then the product must remain plugged in (and able to draw standby power) to function as intended.

Here are some good vampire zapping products to consider for your Clark County home.

Bracketron Green Zero ($25-$30)
Belkin - Conserve Smart AV ($30)
ZuniDigital Green Surge Protector ($30)

TV Trickle Saver Strip (($39.95)
ThinkEco Modlet ($50)
iGO Green Power Smart Tower ($65)

Unplug your chargers: cell phone chargers, camera chargers, battery chargers or power adapters, etc. These are drawing some amount of energy even when not in use (and even when not connected to an end-use product).

Halloween is nearly here and it's a good time to be on the look out for phantoms. Let's work together to slay those vampires who are lurking in your Clark County, Wa home.
