The drive starts just outside of charming Hood River, located in the scenic Columbia River Gorge. Autumn harvests and foliage make the adventure pleasing to the eye, as well as the palette.
In October, mornings are often a bit hazy before the fog lifts to stunningly blue and clear skies. But, that's okay, as there's plenty to see and do, and often folks are in search of produce.
Hood River apples and pears are some of the best grown anywhere in the country. You'll find all sorts of varieties too - in many different colors - available by the piece, bag, box or bin.
But be forewarned, there are plenty of distractions along the Hood River Fruit Loop. Pumpkin farms, free wine tastings, yummy food and fields of llamas and alpacas can be pretty tempting.
