There is a new contest coming in November, the 30 Posts in 30 Days Blogging Challenge, that will push folks to be active bloggers every day.  This challenge is hard for a lot of people (having done it before).  Here are a few tips to make the month go by smooth and easy while still being a successfl daily blogger.

TIP #1 - Use Drafts (lots of 'em)

Chris Ann put in her challenge post this idea of writing a few blogs and saving them in MS Word.  I suggest you do the same thing but leave them as drafts.  Some of the easiest posts to create for a "quickie" article include listing posts, IDX-based neighborhood home searches, upcoming local events (you need one of these every week in this contest), and market statistics.  Write up 4-5 of these and have at least 1-2 completely done.  Even if you only have a headline and the first paragraph of an article, it's a start.

TIP #2 - Identify the easiet hyperlocal events to write about

These are the holidays so there are plenty of things to blog about and they're EASY!  I find 8-10 of these local events every year to write about. All you have to do is say something about it and put in the contact or event information.  Most of these take 10-15 mintues to write.  Some specific topics to blog on include:

  • Festivals
  • Chamber of Commerce events (shopping, etc)
  • Musical events (holiday songs, choirs, etc)
  • Fall farmers markets (if still running)
  • Christmas tree lots (location, bouncy houses, etc)

TIP #3 - PLAN AHEAD!!!

If you have a hard time remembering then put a reminder in your calendar application (Outlook, Gmail, etc) with a reminder to write a blog daily.  I used to do that with a reminder every morning.  It worked and I got my posts in each day.

While you're at it, make a list of all the blog posts you might want to write over the next 30 days.  Just make a list of 30 articles you could write.  Include the examples I've noted above and you'll likely get to 30 fairly fast.  Having a pre-determined list of articles will really help make this challenge a lot less stressful.

Put all these together and you'll be well on your way to successfully beating this challenge.  Remember, try to stick with the SEO optimized hyperlocal articles that will generate business.  This is the perfect time of year to get those new leads going.

Bryan, making drafts is a great idea. Sometimes all it takes is that first sentence to write a post. Thanks for the tips.

Great list Bryan.  The draft thing is key for me.  I noticed I was posting at least 10 times per week, and most of them were in draft mode.  Thanks for sharing.  I wrote a blog that was similar to yours.

Bryan - Great suggestions! I find when I set drafts with ideas and links, I'm more inclined to go back and finish writing a blog. The draft mode acts almost as a blogging checklist! :)
