As most already know, HouseFront created a web widget specifically for the iPhone (http://iphone.housefront.com/). Allowing users the ability to quickly search a property without having to wait and navigate through our full website at HouseFront.com. If you didn't already know Apple had their bi-annual conference about a week ago and has since updated the iPhone's software to 1.1.3.

Here at HouseFront we are taking advantage of some of those new features, the key one being the ability to put web apps on your iPhones home screen (a full tutorial of the new features can be found here: Apple iPhone). When you're on HouseFront's iPhone widget and you click the + button to add our site as a short cut you will notice we have created an icon that will display instead of a screenshot.

Here's what it looks like:

Hi, interesting information. I don't have an i phone, because I'm on Verizon. I've read that there have been some enhancements to the ipod touch to make it more like the iphone. Do you know anything about it? I tried the touch and found that you can not enter calendar events on the unit. I guess you have to go to your laptop, enter the information, then synch. How inconvenient is that?

Apparently Apple has added a notes function to the touch, but it still lacks bluetooth and the aforementioned problem with calendar, and to a lesser degree, contacts. My Palm will not last forever and I'm looking for either a stand alone pda or a smartphone such as the Blackberry. If Apple added a couple of features, I think the touch would work.

Rich ~ I had not heard of that problem with the calendar on the touch...thats weird.  I am about 99% sure also that they will not be adding bluetooth to the touch becuase they dont want it to become an internet phone (taking sales from the iPhone).   The touch was designed as a multimedia device more so than a productivity product.

If your looking for a pda type device, I would go with a smartphone as the market seems to be leaning away from strictly pda functioning products.  When you start shopping I'd say look at all different types of smartphones and dont eve look at stand alone pda's.  And don't count on the touch working for you as a business tool.

Hope that helps a little, good luck in your search.

And now I hear that AT&T can't sell the things.  They are stacking up.  I think people are starting to figure out all of the issues... like non user changeable battery... with these things.

Your tech is cool, though.

Stephen and Chris-thanks for the advice. I agree the touch requires too much reconfiguration in order to work at all. I want to remain on the Verizon network. I used to have Cingular (now AT&T) and had a lot of trouble with the network, so the iPhone is not available to me.  I'm looking at the Blackberry 8830 World Edition, not that I will be travelling to Europe, but it has a full keyboard and the "tethered modem" capability. However, right now I'm not willing to pay the additional $30/month for the data package. I need a few more closings before I do that (so send me some referral business).

Lane ~ I have heard those reports, Mr. Jobs over there has a lot of work to do if he wants to sell 10 million of them by the end of this year.

Rich ~  Just checked out the Blackberry 8830, looks like a great phone, seems like there isn't much that thing can't do (especially since it can go on all different types of networks).

Data packages on carrier networks are pricey, I think thats a big reason people don't get smartphones or use all of their phone's features becuase it would get real expensive really fast.  I actually wrote a blog last Thursday about using SMS to get email instead of having to get a data plan (Smartphone Envy?).  And don't worry, I'll keep you in mind for those referrals, hope you have a great year.
