McLean CCThe McLean Community Center may be getting a facelift and an upgrade! Shaffer, Wilson, Sarver & Gray (SWSG), a Herndon based design and engineering firm, was hired to develop the concepts and plans for expansion and renovation of the Ingleside Drive facility. The Governing Board of the Community Center reviewed the plans, provided feedback, and discussed the various options in a recent meeting with the firm.

Three plans were presented, one a lower cost-more compact space concept, one with a much more elaborate plan at a much higher cost, and one moderately conservative plan at the mid-level budget.

Concept A proposes the addition of 4,785 square feet to the existing structure and a reconfiguration of the administrative space in the Swinson Lounge with expansion of the administrative space in the performing arts area. The entrance lobby and social area would be reconfigured, 46 parking spaces would be added, and the total projected cost would be $3.49 million. The new total square footage would equal 12,077 square feet and the plan would offer the lowest cost option.

Concept B adds a 6,885 square foot addition for a total projected cost of $3.72 million dollars to create a total of 13,907 square feet. The addition would include a 2,483 square foot rehearsal/multi-purpose space, a reconfigured entrance lobby with a social area of 3,137 square feet, and the addition of 42 parking spaces.

Concept C includes a 9,285 square foot addition with a 2,876 square foot multi-purpose space, more conference room areas, and a 1,202 square foot rehearsal space for a total of 15,672 square feet. This plan also adds 46 parking spaces all for a projected cost of $4.48 million dollars.

SWSG will return to meet with the committee on December 4th with 3D models that will address feedback and alterations. If you live in McLean, Tysons Corner, or Vienna, plan to visit the The Alden Theatre at the McLean Community Center for one of the many musical, comedy, dance, or film events.
