Daylight Saving Time ends November 4, 2012 and there are some interesting facts surrounding Daylight Saving Time.
Did you know
- that Benjamin Franklin first conceived the idea in 1874?
- that many European countries started using Daylight Saving Time during World War I?
- that it was enacted in the US in 1918 but implementation was inconsistent and many changes have been made since.
- that approximately 70 countries worldwide participate?
- that different countries change their clocks on different dates?
- that not all States in the US participate? Those states are Hawaii and Arizona.
- However, the Navajo Nation which is partly located in Arizona does participate!
- that Amish communities will observe Daylight Saving Time and others will not?
Don't forget to set back your clocks by one hour November 4, 2012 as daylight saving time will come to an end! That means:
- we are getting back the one hour we lost in the Spring
- it will be lighter in the morning
- it will get dark sooner in the evening
While you are changing your clocks, this is also a good time to remember to change the batteries in all your smoke detectors and the carbon monoxide detectors.
