The famous Budweiser Clydesdales will be ready to have their photos taken with kids of all ages on November 3rd at the Anheuser Busch facility in Merrimack, New Hampshire from 1-3 pm.
I took this photo of one of the beautiful Clydesdales the last time I visited.
The Clydesdales originated in the Clyde valley of Scottland. In the 19th century, farmers living along the banks of the River Clyde in Lanarkshire, Schotland first bred the Great Flemish Horse, which was a forerunner of the Clydesdale. In the mid 1800's the Canadians of Scottish descent brought the first Clydesdales to the U.S.
In 1933, to celebrate the repeal of prohibition, August A. Busch, Jr. gave a hitch of Clydesdales to his father to celebrate.
Not every Clydesdale qualifies to be part of the hitch. The horse must be a gelding of at least four years of age, must stand 6 feet at the shoulder when mature and weigh between 1,800 and 2,300 pounds. In addition, the horse must be bay in color, have a shock of white on the face, have 4 whit stocking feet, and a black tail and mane.
If time permits, you may want to take a complimentary tour of the Anheuser Busch brewery The tour is very informative and is a lot of fun. It includes a visit to the gardens, the Brew House, cold cellars and the high-speed packaging lines.
Guests 21 years of age and over may sample some of the Anheuser-Busch premium beers. There are non-alcohol drinks as well.
Anheuser-Busch is located at 221 Daniel Webster Highway in Merrimack, NH. Phone 603-595-1202
