Recycle Your Pumpkins - Smash ‘Em!!!
Here’s a great idea from our local grocery market chain in Victoria, BC ...fun for the kids and helps the environment too!
I encourage other folks in other places to consider this fun activity.
Go grab a few pumpkins & SMASH ‘EM
Great suggestion Bruce, we live outside of Austin in a rural city Lago Vista and have plenty of deer tht would love to eat those pumkins.
I think you idea would be a great way to get the community to come together and network, who knows my next seller or buyer might be at the smashing.

This is a great event that is organized by the Greater Victoria Compost Education Centre. We created the event to raise awareness of the amount of pumpkins that end up in the garbage, as well as raise awareness of composting in general. It is also a fundraiser for us as entry is by donation. Thrifty Foods, the local grocery chain, has been a sponsor since the beginning. Since we started the event 9 years ago we have collected and composted over 111 tonnes of jack-o-lanterns from ending up in a landfill. For those that are interested in organizing a similar event, we can help! And I think finding a grocery store sponsor is the best thing, as they are the ones disrtibuting the pumpkins and it encourages corporate resposibility.
