Changes are in the air.....Moving.....how do you handle it??????

By
Real Estate Agent with Prudential Verani Realty

I don't know about you but I have experienced a lot of change in the past month or two.

We are moving again. This will be our second move in five years. After the last move I said I didn't want to do it again, ever.

Moving is so stressful. Having your home "on the market" means having it in showing condition each day, before you head out the door to work. This can be a full time job in and of itself.

Then there is dealing with the objections from buyers on your home. Things you think are great about your house seem to be a problem for a potential buyer. Now what? Do you fix it , change it or do you say "sorry, take it or leave it"?

On the other end of the spectrum is, "where are we going?"

We are moving in with our daughter and her family. This entails a big adjustment, going from a nice quiet environment with just "the two of us", to a family with active school age children.

Having grown up in a multi-generational home, this is a natural progression for me but, before moving in, we have to get our "living space" redone to suit our needs.

This job we thought would be a two week process, took well over a month.

Once we moved, we still had the house on the market, so we dropped the price. We now have a contract. The headaches are almost gone but for a furnace that died the other night. Now we get to pay for a new one while the next owners get all the benefit from it.

I can not wait until it is done, closed, finished!!!!!!

I have a new found appreciation for my Sellers as they negotiate this mine field for themselves.

If you are thinking about listing your home for sale and need advice from someone who has walked the walk, contact me for help.

I am very happy to hear that the house is UA. Sorry about the furnace...that stinks for sure.  I don't know that I could handle not having my privacy but your set up with your room away fro the hub of house seems very nice.

When is the closing?

Hi Judy - congrats on the contract on your home!  That part must feel good to have done.  Now to get it to closing with no more things happening like the furnace.  Hope it's closing soon for you.

Congrats!
Ann

Jay - Home Inspection should not be an issue since the sale contract states "as is" condition.

Moni - We are happy to have it UA - closing end of February

Ann - Thanks, it does feel good and I will be happy when it is complete.

Judy - we've been in our home for 10 years and I swore when we moved I'd never do it again...now we're looking. LOL  I grew up in a multigenerational home as well and I miss it now that my 2 are grown. It sure is quiet aroud here.

Congratulations on your contract! That's awesome.

Judy, just because you have "as is" doesn't mean they can't walk if something major is found that wasn't picked up at the showing or something you never knew about. Unless they remove the home inspection contingency, I was just hoping there will be no surprises for the buyer to spook them.

Linda - Thank you, I am rapidly getting used to having the noise from our 3 grandchildren. I love mornings when they are rushing to get the bus for school. Breakfast can be a whirlwind.

Jay - I know what you mean about the home inspection but we are hoping that they will be so thrilled about a new furnace they will not bother us about anything nit picky or surprising.

Bill - Thank you so much.

Sal - Thanks - the new furnace is all shinny and quiet so it is great for the buyers.

All agents should have to move on a regular basis just so we can stay in touch with what our clients are going through every day. I also believe in multi-generational households. Now that my gradmother passed in August my mother has finally decided to live with me in Portsmouth. My biggest concern is integrating her cats with mine!

Shannon, Thanks for commenting and congratulations on adding your Mom to your household and good luck with the cat situation. We came with no pets. My daughter has 2 cats, I love them my hubby doesn't. He'll adjust.

Judy, we have been in our present house for almost 11 years but I remember the pain of moving so well it seems like almost yesterday.  We made two cross country moves from Colorado to North Carolina and then from North Carolina to here.  As our birds have left the nest our house is really too big but the thought of moving just makes my back crawl.  It sounds like you are gettinga ajusted though and enjoying the grandchildren.

I'm right there with you we moved in to an investment property that is 600 sqft less than the home we were in and boy are we cramped. I also hate moving, but it gives me an idea of what sellers have to go through when selling their home.

Marchel - You guys have made some big moves too. I think I don't want to do this again but you never know. I do love the grandchildren and hopefully they enjoy having us here full time.

Todd - Yes, isn't it amazing how much stuff we accumulate. I do agree that the experience keeps me in touch with the needs of my sellers.

Judy, you are very courageous to move two times within a period of five years! ;-) Wow! Last time I moved was almost 8 years ago, and the previous one was 15 years prior to that. And I'm still recuperating from the last move.  Good luck with everything.

Griselda - Thanks for stopping by to comment. I didn't recover fully from the last move and do not look forward to yet another move in the future but sometimes circumstances dictate where we live.
