Surf's Up! Lets' Move Some Real Estate!

The Fed and the President did something, and the market surged 600 points today. YEAH!!! So how come nobody's jumping up and down?

Come on, where is everybody, now that it is time to celebrate? The market stopped sliding. We can all heave a sigh of relief, right?

At least all of you folks in Dubai can, while you are buying private islands at $25MM a pop, or skiing in those fancy indoor snow domes, or building obscenely tall towers; the currently largest two of them on the planet. Minnesota's Mall of America is no longer number one, now that the Dubai Mall is here! You also have the tallest hotel on the planet. And what about DubaiLand? Good job, Dubai!

And now back to our domestic situation. I am encouraged, but because I know that it is an election year (traditionally those trade less optimistically), the rate cut means little to me, because the lending guidelines are still quite stiff, and unforgiving to those who may have been through a bankruptcy or prior foreclosure.

Price declines and new builds scare me a lot less than how hard it is to get a loan approved for decent working folks. It is as if, despite the markets and the Fed, mean old Mr. Potter is still running the town amok, as he tries to put the Bailey Savings & Loan out of business. Hang in there George Bailey! We need your pragmatic optimism more than anything today!

Let's figure out how we can best help our clients and prospects achieve the American Dream successfully. After all, it is our business, isn't it. Let's show all the sour pusses out there that we do make a difference. If we earn our keep we'll close those deals.

And for goodness' sake, keep your chin (or chins) off the doggone ground. That dirt smudge on your collar is unsightly, and doesn't show that you have the ability to do anything but drink coffee and booze, smoke cigarettes, and bemoan where you are. Be proactive and positive, and change with the markets to improve your business.

I am having the time of my life. Dressed in my Hawaiian shirts, Crocs,  and Bermudas, I stand out really well in the weather we are having in Colorado right now. People walk up to make sure I am all right, and then I have them. I am getting new business by being unafraid to be different. I encourage you to be different, too. People recognize my cars in some neighborhoods, now, and are anxious to have me evaluate their home values, or help them locate a home.I work the deals, and find out how people are set to do business with me. While I want to provide great and outstanding service for my clients, they are seeking my assistance, too. That means I have to provide expertise, counsel, guidance, and sometimes I have to let them go, too.

Carefully pick your clients, and your business can thrive more, because you won't be wasting so much time.

So, whether the market is up or down, you and I still have the agility to improve it.

All the best,

Lou
